So is working there good then? Are the benefits good?. Is our overall a good company to work for

As with any company there is good and bad. And will any company there will be things that start to get to you as well.

I always dreamed of working there so when I got the job I was in heaven. But it didn't take long to see that the company I grew up to love was come rely different on the inside. I didn't "hate" it. It's just my eyes were openness farther than I cared to see.

It's not Uncle Walt's company like we all grew up loving. It's just a billion dollar corporate giant now that wears a friendly mask.

But to answer some of your questions on here we did everything over the phone. We got an apartment right near downtown Disney so we are close to everything. And we are both Disney nuts so I'm sure we will spend a lot of time in the Parks. She is a teacher so she should be able to find work I would think. She has her master's.

If you don't mind sharing, which apartment complex did you settle on? I know that area quite well, I used to live near Downtown Disney as well. I could definitely give you some tips about the area.

Hey Brad,
Tried to call you several time but seems your phone wasn't on!!?? But anyways, GOOD LUCK and I hope everything works out for you and Wife!!!! Like other Raven said its not the same loving company of Uncle Walt's era, its an entertainment giant who looks out for the reason of making profit! You make get discouraged, but don't! There are other CM's that you can talk to who might offer some advice on which way to go and get what you want out of the company. You seem like you have ambitions of moving into management...set your goals on that. Soon as you are hired and after you are comfortable, I would start putting out feelers of how to obtain your ultimate goal. Just remember that you will have a lot of stepping stones in life and a steep hill to climb before your get to that Mansion on the mountain top! That's what your new experience is...stepping stones. But not just for you, for your wife also. Most important thing is to include HER in your work as well! Where else can you take your wife to Paris for the evening and then be back in your own bed at the end of the night!? Keep us posted of your adventure on here...it may help some else who is thinking about doing the same thing! Again...GOOD LUCK and God Bless!

I called a few times(not text) but went to voicemail.:confused: didn't leave a message either

When do you leave for Orlando? Maybe I'll try again...just let me know when!

In one of your private messages you asked why I left(also in a post here) Like you said yourself, the pay isn't great but the benefits are great. I don't know how much you are getting paid, but when I worked at Epcot/MK I was only making like $6.35/hr. and basically I was working only about 30-40 hrs a week...never a solid 40 for full time status, because they would have to pay full time benefits I guess! If you do one thing from these post DO NOT JOIN THE UNION! They will make it sound good to you, but they take your money for dues and if they want to strike you have to strike also, even if it doesn't concern you. Maybe after you work there for awhile you might want to join, but just moving and starting out...I would not!

I would have to agree. There are Unions that do good things, and actually fight for fair working wages and conditions for the members. But for an hourly custodial worker, there isn't much they're going to be able to do for you....except take their dues right out of your check.

Entertainment, sure. Food service, maybe. Maintenance, definitely. Hourly custodial, nah. Keep your money and do a good job.

Thanks for all the input. I am moved in my new apartment about a mile from downtown Disney. You can call me anytime tomorrow and I should be available. I am enjoying this thread and all the different views and opinions.

OK I will call you Tuesday for a few minutes Glad you are moved in and getting settled. I know the excitement you are feeling right now, but also understand the feeling of, "am I doing the right thing?" Like I said take it one day at a time along the path of stepping stones. Maybe take your wife out to Paris for a THANK YOU dinner and stay for Illuminations. Talk to you soon

Congrats on the new job and on the move! I'm a Maryland native myself and I actually did the college program back in 2009. Please continue to keep us updated!
