Movies that make you think

Has anyone seen any movies that have made them think very hard or you have to watch them a second time to fully understand?

For me I would have to say Fight Club and Memento were movies I had to watch a few times to fully understand.

I was going to put Donnie Darko but I knew someone would put it...

The movie that probably made me look at my life the most and made me feel the most emotional ever would have to be
Requiem for a Dream.

Funny... when I saw this thread... I was coming to list Donne Darko.

To me, the movie that made me think about it the most was a Showtime original movie called Bang Bang You're Dead. It was based on the play called Bang Bang You're Dead. The play sought to fill the void and understand how a kid commits a violent act. The Showtime movie focuses on one school in one community that unknowingly contributes to the explosive scenerio and takes a look at a troubled teen named Trevor, himself a victim and at risk of going over the edge.

Problem with the Matrix is once you really think about it, you realize you've wasted a lot of time on some of the most artificially constructed pseudo-philosophy.

Actually...most of the philosophies depicted can be linked to religions especially Christianity and Buddhism...so its hardly pseudo-philosophy. I thought a long while about the movie and its message, the philosophies depicted, its motifs and I did not feel like I wasted my time...the way you felt doesn't characterize the way others felt about the Matrix....

As for another movie which made me think.....hmmm.....I really liked Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon....had to "watch" it a couple of times to understand its message....:hammer:

Perhaps the first, but not the other 2. Having studied philosophy extensively, I can tell you that the later movies are simply empty.

True...the core of the philosophy is in the first film...but there was quite a bit in the second (which hindered the story)...the third was well awful...but hey something different to watch at theaters.

:D

I don't thinkt he 3rd was awful. There was no way to make the 3rd better than the second and first one, and ofcourse it had to end like that...It just made sense to me I didn't expect it to be amazing but it certainly lived up to my expectation.

When i saw in the theater the whole entire theater cracked up because when trinity was dying for the 20 minutes it took her to die someone yelled out die B**ch :sohappy:

"Defending Your Life" with Albert Brooks and Meryl Steep. On the surface it appears to be a light screwball comedy with romantic overtones. After it's over and you think about it, you realize that it has a life message. Enjoy life to the fullest, don't be afraid to do the things you want to, and take risks.

Sort of like Carpe Diem - Seize the Day. Made me think about my life and sparked an internal debate that ended up about 3 years later with me making a significant decision that changed my life and that of my family. I know it sounds like a big deal for a small mostly unknown movie, but it must have touched a chord somewhere in me.
