Most vacant resort

I always wonder which resort has the most average vacancies. One would think it's the Grand Floridian because it's expensive, but last time the woman who checked me in at the GF said it's not nearly the least busy resort. In fact, she said it was the most popular resort besides the values.

I can only assume the least would be Fort Wilderness when it comes to all of the options available to stay at! I can't imagine there are to many people these days who want to go camping in Florida's hot weather and then have to share a shower + other facilities with other campers and then go out in such a public place like a Disney park. Obviously this would not apply to persons who are staying in there own campers or the Fort Wilderness Cabins.

I honestly would think that Saratoga Springs or Old Key West would be the least crowded resorts? Would be very interesting to know...

I'd guess All-Star Sports, when they aren't bought out for teams, bands and cheerleaders.

(It's certainly considered the Mediterranean Ave. of Disney resort Monopoly.)

Not sure I agree on this one. I have stayed at Sports (as well as the other all stars) nearly every other month of the year and its always a good amount of people. I would say though the week after NYE for about 2 weeks its empty - its fabulous but once the cheerleaders show up - take over.

LOL now this I agree with. I know people stay in Fort Wilderness using campers - but yea, I always think its a ghost town over there. I could not do it myself - I am not a grass/outdoors person.

I would guess Saratoga Springs or Old Key West as well. I know that Saratoga Springs is one of the last resorts I would choose. I'm sure it is a nice resort, just doesn't appeal to me, just like the Grand Floridian doesn't appeal to me either.

I also agree that Saratoga Springs would be most vacant.. in my opinion. If I had to a list of desired stays at a resort, SSR and All Stars would be last. I know the All Stars do very well though and get busy.

I quite liked All-Star Movies--I'm a Fantasia fan that was put in the Dalmatians wing--and ASMusic has sentimental value as my very first trip. :)
(But then, I like the "campus dorm" feel of colorful Red Roof Inns, the clean basic motel accommodations and the community feeling of everything on the outside of the resort, as we're all just camping out between park visits.)

Only wandered through Saratoga on my way to the spa, and it has a nice relaxed feel to it. Having a WL-like pool and a view of Downtown at night doesn't hurt either, but was too expensive for a non-DVC'er to stay in. Although that's coming from someone who grew up in upstate NY, so maybe I'm biased for liking the scenery.
My guess is that SSR and OKW were at the "low end" of DVC resorts when it was just starting up, and most new members chose the flashy new Bay Lake and AKL resorts when the membership drives came up, and the "exclusive" resorts just don't get as much publicity as the better known Deluxe add-on villas, since regular guests don't know about them either.
If they had an AoA-like wing for us regular paying studio-room guests to stay in, without the whopping punitive charge, they might not be "shutting out" as many guests.

Deluxes BAD, except for Beach Club Resort, Contemporary Resort, Animal Kingdom Villas, Beach Club Villas, Villas at Wilderness Lodge.

Oh, except for those? ;)
That pretty much leaves just Floridian, Polynesian and Boardwalk, all of which are 5-star priced and crowding out their rooms for DVC villas. Can't imagine why they're doing badly.

(And Yacht Club, which just sits in Beach Club's shadow, since nobody really "gets" the theming.)

I have stayed at all of the All Stars and once liked them very much.. until Pop Century opened! Lol I love that Pop doesn't share buses with any resorts and the food court is great. I like opening our door to the outside and not a hallway, which is why I love the moderates also!

Then I guess All Star Music is Baltic!

Shouldn't the All-Stars be the light blues, since there are three? POP and AoA would be Baltic and Mediterranean. I wonder if we could fill the whole board? Is there already such a game?

Monorail resorts for the greens, Epcot resorts for the yellows. Cinderella Castle Suite = Boardwalk. What for Park Place?

Pop doesn't seem Baltic-ish though. Maybe collectively those three all Stars should be Baltic and Mediterranean hahaha!!

Check the General Public Discounts at Mouse Savers....

The "emptiest" resorts will probably be the ones that are most heavily discounted.

Example: "Summer Savings Offer"

Value Resorts: get up to 15% off, except:
Art of Animation Family Suites: get up to 10% off

Moderate Resorts: get up to 20% off

Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts: get up to 30% off, except:
Animal Kingdom Lodge Savannah View & Club Level, Beach Club Resort, Contemporary Resort: up to 20% off
Animal Kingdom Villas, Beach Club Villas, Villas at Wilderness Lodge: up to 20% off

Reading this backwards - the Values are doing fairly well, Moderates in a LITTLE trouble, Deluxes BAD, except for Beach Club Resort, Contemporary Resort, Animal Kingdom Villas, Beach Club Villas, Villas at Wilderness Lodge.

This sort of follows our observations from our April-May 2014 trip.... WDW is having trouble filling the Deluxe Resorts at current "rack" pricing. We're hearing from a number of our wait staff friends that the RESTAURANTS are pretty busy - but that HOTELS aren't very full.

This is only true if you assume any discount means trouble. Truth is, WDW treats their rooms like Macy's treats their merchandise - they overprice everything because some schnooks don't second guess their prices, they just buy what they want if they can afford it. But the "sale" prices, oh those glorious sale prices, help move merchandise because now customers think they're getting a bargain. In fact Macy's can sell everything routinely for 70% of current prices and still do fine, except those who look for perceived bargains won't feel like they're getting on if they're paying rack prices even if those rack prices are now cheaper. THat's what WalMart and Target are for. Those WDW deluxes have deeper discounts because their profit margins are big enough that 30% off still makes WDW some serious coin but it inspires some customers to splurge because they figure now they're getting a real deal. It's all perception.

When we stayed at Old Key West, it wasn't near capacity at all. It was quiet, peaceful, and a great way to relax aftera twelve hour park day.

We love OLD KEY WEST, but you maybe surprised how full it is, without looking like it. Remember it is spread out and has 4 pools. Not like the box hotels, BW, BC, and others, with everyone crowded together.
