And now, every time I watch it, it gets better.
It's strange how some films can be like that - not just Disney. A prime example of a film I was not initially impressed with, but grew to enjoy from repeated viewings is "Big Trouble in Little China". Kevin Smith films have a similar effect with me.

Big Trouble is one of our (me and my brother) personal favorites. And it's finally out on DVD, so I'll be able to watch it in English for the first time. I hope it's as good, cause the dubbing for this one is GREAT! Very funny movie, highly recommend it.

*end drift* :D

BTILC rules. I wished that Kim Catrell took her clothes off in that.

Now she's just a old hag and I'm like "put them back on please", 20 years too late.

I used to think Aladdin was overrated - it could not live up to the hype. But it's one that has VERY grown on me :D

It's good you added that last sentence, or I might have had to stop talking to you. ;) :D

underrated in general = The Emperor's New Groove believe me, even I underestimated it as something less.

underrated financially = Pocahontas - because it came after The lion King and people bashed it for not being as good.
= Brother Bear - respectable but no one cared

underrated by Disney fans = Lilo and Stitch - Just because Stitch is getting pimped as a characters almost the entire disney community hates the whole movie.

I guess I'm alone on this one, but I thought Hercules was really underrated.

Overrated- going way back, I'd say Alice In Wonderland. It was always too strange for me.

underrated: The Three Little Pigs, Song of the South, The Great Mouse Detective, The Rescuers Down Under, of course Hunchback, Hercules, The Emperor's New Groove, Brother Bear, and in the general public--The Nightmare Before Christmas (it's got a rabid cult following however :animwink: ); and I agree Lilo and Stitch is by many hardcore Disney fans because of Stitch in the parks--(if you take a step back and look at it filmwise, it's great...I saw it in Downtown Disney opening day, and didn't expect much, but wow, amazing watercolor design with a feel of Hawaii that is right on target, and the story is so original--and it works so well; there were dozens of Disney animators and such in the audience; their excitment and presence made me appreciate the film even more)

overrated:.....hmm.....I reallly don't agree with any of the ones mentioned, because when you get sick of hearing about a movie, and you've seen it countless times, you might start to like it less, even if it is amazing---I will definately have to say any of the straight to movie sequels that people tend to like (Lion King II, etc., ugh!)

Great point about Stitch, Halfling....although yes, they're running him into the ground, the movie is probably one of the more original ideas and movies they've had in a while..and the watercolor art in the backgrounds is a throwback to Disney movies of old ( not to mention now that they've gone computer, probably the last time we'll see it )....on the other hand though you had except for Song of the South as underrated.....with everybody who hasn't seen it, the mystery and hype around why it's not out, but there's a ride for it, etc. ..overrated....should it ever get re-released.....many people I think will be dissapointed, ( especially when they find 80% if not more is live action, very little Brer Rabbit and the rest of the gang ) Sorry, it's late in the morning, not trying to be mean...:D

I'm with you on "Hercules". The combination of the humor and animation makes it one of my favorite movies. I was glad to see that the cruise line did make a "Muse"ical out of it, so it did get some recognition.

Overrated: 101 Dalmations and The Aristocats. Both have poor animation and characters which are just way too over the top to be believable.

Most underrated? Hands-down, The Rescuers Down Under. The art of that film blows my mind. The fact that they can take a character like Marahute and draw her so detailed, so graceful, and so life-like just has me in awe. The beautiful landscapes, the sweeping camera shots... Cody and Marahute flying over the edge of the waterfall is (IMHO) one of the most beautiful shots in any Disney film. And the score is gorgeous! Bruce Broughton deserves heaps of attention for it. It fits so well with the grace and majesty of Marahute. That soundtrack gets regular play in my CD player - the track "Cody's Flight" in particular.

I couldn't agree with you more on the technical and artistic achievement of this one. The whole flight sequence is just absolutely gorgeous and I'm not sure the music could have been any better for that scene. I first saw that one on laserdisc and remember playing that whole sequence over and over many times just to take all of it in, it is so amazing. And of course now you've forced me to pull it up in iTunes and I'm listening to the soundtrack right now.
