Mosquitos in September?

As my bride was looking through her Avon catalog this weekend, it dawned on me that we might should get armed against mosquitos for our September trip to the World. Is that a valid assumption, or are all the mosquitos magically done away with?

We're blessed to live in (relatively) bug-free Western Colorado, but I grew up in East Texas where you could rarely go two minutes in the summer and fall without being bug dinner. I don't relish the idea of smearing myself with anti-bug juice, but I'll be dousing my lily-white flesh in sunscreen, so maybe I should just go ahead and stock up on the sunscreen/bug guard all in one?

I have used this the past few trips and haven't had a problem with mosquito bites. I have the .75 oz tin. The push up stick wasn't available when I bought it. However, the smaller tin has lasted me quite a while as it doesn't take much to work. The tin is also very convenient to carry. It's small enough to put in your pocket and you don't have to worry about it leaking.

I know they say regular anti-bug stuff is safe, but I'd rather avoid the chemicals. This stuff is great and doesn't smell too bad either. I put some on the back of my knees and back of my neck at night.

Another good product to put ON the bites, in case you forget to put the anti-bug stuff on and can't quit itching yourself! Looks like Burt's Bees also makes a repellent, but I can't vouch for it as I've only used the (above) Badger product.

I have bad reactions to mosquito bites. We have go every year in September, I have never had a problem. I don't even were any protection for them.

We have had problems a couple of times with these tiny little flying bugs at night at the hotel, but never mosquito bites.

It is always good to be prepared but I can honestly say that I have never been bit by a mosquito in WDW. Disney does a really incredible job keeping the population down.

If you still have swelling and bite marks 2 weeks later there is a pretty good chance that it was not mosquitoes. If they are only on your feet and you were wearing open shoes there is a pretty good chance that you bitten by Chiggers which are the larva of a harvest mite. You could of picked them up simply walking through the grass. They normally clear up in a week or so but I have seen them last considerably longer. Here is a link to some info and pictures of what the bites look like.

In all my years of going in September and October, I can't recall one mosquito bite. I always thought that the birds of Florida kept the mosquito population down.

As a native Floridian I can tell you that is not the case. We have mosquitoes here that are big enough to eat the birds.

Mosquitos are not allowed on Disney Property!
All kidding aside Disney does a remarkable job of keeping the mosquito population down to near imperceptable. In all the years I have visited Disney I cannot recall ever being harassed by these winged beast of terror. (Live in Florida long enough and you will agree that these things are not brainless insects but calculating beings of cruelty)

Well, thanks all! That's excellent news. We've got a couple of bottles of Bullfrog sunblock/repellent all in one. I guess I'll try to not use all of that this summer and take a small amount with us just in case.

Bugs love me -- my wife, not so much. I tell her it's because I'm so much sweeter, but I have a hard time convincing her :animwink:
