From Screamscape.com...

BEASTLY KINGDOM - (6/18/02) The latest rumor regarding the Dragon themed coaster concept claims that this may be a different kind of experience that we’ve seen from a Disney coaster before. The story claims that the coaster may actually be more like a dark ride and move through a few sections of scenery and then stop to allow for a show scene to unfold before moving on. There could be several show scenes to stop at before you hit the really wild ride portion of the experience where you’ll be face to face with a giant animatronic fire breathing dragon.

Sounds more like Journey to the Center of the Earth at Disneyseas in Tokyo than a coaster. I think i'd prefer this over a coaster anyway.

At least we keep hearing new rumors about BK. Time will tell.

not to dispute anything said here...

but Screamscape isn't a home for too many reliable rumors.

I'm just saying don't get your hopes up.

I remember reading that on Theme Park Insider a few months ago, and on some other site when the IAPPA show was in Orlando last year. Since it is not a new rumor at all, I can't believe it wasn't posted at Screamscape until now.

Question for ya mktiggerman. Besides this forum, what are some other good websites for theme park news? I know a few here and there but not tons.

this one is pretty much the one. I like intercot, but they can be a bit slow in updating their main page. I don't even go to the DIS, except for the CM forums. This one is pretty much it. Sadly tho, this one also has a high number of people who sign up to purposely post false rumors, and I'm usually the one to call them out on it.

so far out of all the forums i have encountered this and the DIS are my two faves. if you did do a little DISing i would suggest the news and rumors forum and the universal orlando forum. the rest is kind of blah imho. :)

There is a website with an EXCELLENT forum that sheds some perspective on the Disney parks at the west coast (and on Disney as a whole) if anyone here is interested. If you are looking for rumors, you will be sorely dissapointed, but LP really is a great, balanced (no fanatical and slanderous editorials like at the infamous, "Mouse" sites) site and message board that is a wonderful read.

And then there is this really cool site called "WDWMagic," if you haven't heard of it. :)

In reality, Nobody has ANY idea whats going on in the heads of the Disney Suits upstairs.

I don't get my hopes up. I just have fun thinking about what could be, what could have, and what did not happen.

Besides, I've heard the "i got it from a good source". Yeah, well whose your source? They won't tell, cause they'll get in trouble. Ok, then its not a good source.

Anonymity is the enemy of truth in the press. Unfortunately, theme park press has everything to do with anonymity.

Just a funny little note:

Beastly Kingdom's "preview" was a section of the Discovery River where guests in the DR Boats would encounter a dragon (one made from the same molds as the one in DL Paris.) that would breath fire at the boat.

The Imagineers didn't get the money needed, so all they had was a cave that emitted fire. The Imagineers decide not to put that armor out so it wouldn't "call attention to a show that wasn't much of show". After DR Boats close, the cave just hisses now.

Yet at Disney Studios Paris, theres a section of the tram tour where you roll through the streets of Post-Apocalyptic England and encounter Fire-breathing dragons (aka Shots of Fire coming from various points.

Just a little something I thought of. Visist "The HIll Side" at DCACENTRAL.COM and read Jim Hill's article on "Tale of a Dragon"

(he doesn't tell about the Kraken and Unicorn encounter on the DR Boats in this one, but he should be writing about it soon)

It was way after the Boats closed. I have it on video when we went in October 1999. The cave would still breathe fire, just not very often. You could see it from the bridge to Camp Mickey Minnie, does anyone know when they did stop the fire effect?

On the side, you can see cool Geysers from the far edge of Africa from a Restaurant Balcony I think. Seems like the boat ride had potential, is it possible it may open again if BK opens up. A few more effects and animatronics and this could be a neat trip.

Now, that I remember, there use to be a Dinosaur below the Dino-land bridge in the water, I believe it was moved when Dinosaur was renamed though, but again, there is lots of potential for a neat boat ride if done right and with enough stops.

Did the DR boats run on a track like the Jungle Cruise or were they actually driven??? And, if so (which I would assume so there would be no room for error near the fire of the "dragon") are the tracks still in the river?

What is DIS? I may been there (since I have alot of WDW bookmarks) but I am not familiar with the name. Trying to get all the Disney websites I can!

Here is a picture of the "Fire Breathing" cave. Hope this helps you out with what it was and what could have been.
