Muppets aren’t really owning that area very well. It was always obvious that it was leftover from the backlot, frozen in this “Uh, no it’s not a backlot, it really is New York now… unless it’s not,” halfway space. Adding PizzaRizzo helped, but they removed all the muppety decorations on the back buildings.

MuppetVision is a great attraction, but the “Land” is simply not very good. Monsters will more confidently OWN the land. Putting Monsters in Animation Courtyard would leave this half NY, half backlot problem unsolved.
Yeah, Disney choosing to leave the shops back there shuttered post-COVID was a real indicator that they didn’t care about Grand Ave.

I said you could doubt it, so, I don't know why you're so worked up.

My post was in response to people making stuff up about a new show being only a fan concept or a phase 2 project. Those things are not true. People shouldn't be saying things that aren't true, no?
I'm not worked up. Yes people shouldn't say things that aren't true, but opinions are opinions. How do you know it's not vapor engineering? What kind of show is it? What's it about? Is it a movie show, live action? They have nothing. Just because they said it, doesn't make it true either. My point was if people think it's bogus, they have every right to. It's Disneys job to prove us wrong. And I am always happy to eat crow. I want Disney to prove me wrong.

Disney says there will be a new show. That's all they need to say to prove there will be one. What are you even talking about lol?

Opinions of others say no there won't, so that makes it more valid than Disney literally saying there will be a show? All those people are just wrong and highly pessimistic and negative. This has to be one of the weirdest takes I've ever seen lol.

"Just because they said it doesn't make it true either" Ok... and just because the same 10 overly negative people on WDWMagic said there won't be a show doesn't make it true in the slightest.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you're trying to say with your post lol.
IF a show isn't made then Disney would be proving us wrong, not the other way around lmao! They already said it's coming, so why would they have to make the show to prove us wrong??!?!?!?!?

Phase 2 projects are always never officially dubbed “phase 2.” They’re “things we’ll build after this thing,” like Villains Land, or vague mentions of things that might happen in the future, like the Muppets replacement. Saying Phase 2 never gets built is essentially another way of saying that, unless Disney has discussed something a great deal, released multiple pieces of concept art, and is within a year of construction, it’s probably not getting built.

I’ve asked this before, but - we know Disney is going to considerable lengths to mitigate expected damage from this announcement. They moved it out of D23, dumped it on a Friday, kept it out of major news outlets. If we accept all that, why is adding a few empty words to the PR copy to further prevent any kind of widespread pushback beyond the pale? It’s not even really lying - maybe there has been some vague, noncommittal chat about a show. Things get cut in development all the time, right?

Here's the deal. Disney has a history of telling us that xyz is coming to the parks and we never get xyz. See galaxys edge. Where's the droids the interactions based on ride performance? If they make a show, that proves us (the people who think it's potentially not going to happen) wrong. It's not that hard. I don't care what Disney tells me about ANYTHING. the track record of them not delivering what they tell us is more than established. Therefore, I'll believe it, when I see it. So in a nutshell, prove me wrong.

It spells it out for you in the preview room. That's like saying CBS shouldn't air the pilot of The Twilight Zone in the 1950s because no one knew what it was about.
I just don't think saying "you've entered the Twilight Zone" dun dun dun! Is enough to actually inform the uninitiated that Twilight Zone is/was a TV series and that it's something you should be excited about.

It all makes sense as long as there’s something else in mind for AC.
Muppets “owned” the land until Disney consciously decided to rip out the muppety elements. Monsters will “own” the area in exactly the same way Muppets used to, with some fantastic elements pasted on a generic cityscape, but will be more subdued and underwhelming then Muppets was.

Attraction format should fit the IP and vice versa. What about Monsters lends itself to a 3D movie?

The format made perfect sense for the theatrical, genre-deconstructing Muppets, but like the land and, to a lesser extent, the coaster, I don’t see how it fits Monsters. Monsters features fantastical creatures in a banal setting - that’s a dark ride setup, which Disney clearly realized at one point based on the excellent Tokyo ride and even the enjoyable DCA attraction.

It's super ironic and frustrating to me that so many Muppet-y elements were removed to make the land more "classy" and we lost the balloon and Kermit/Piggy mural so they didn't interfere with Galaxy's Edge's sightlines (despite the fact neither would've been visible from it), only to now be getting tons of monster elements added to the land AND a huge Monsters Inc building that's right alongside Galaxy's Edge's border, meaning it may be visible from there, so all the Muppet destruction was for nothing.

I get what you're saying, I'm well aware of things they said they would do and then don't do. but until that actually happens and they don't bring a show to this monsters inc. land, then what is the point of making these forums a doom and gloom place to come to.

I'm just tired of coming on here to read news and rumors and discussion and it's always the same 10 or so people just being like "NOPE WON'T HAPPEN" "NOPE THEY NEVER BUILT THIS, THEY NEVER BUILT THAT" "NOPE THEY WON'T FINISH THIS" "NOPE THEY WON'T MAINTAIN THIS"

Like jeez, if all Disney does is disappoint you over and over then why even give a s*** about it at this point?

To be fair, there is the company play from the end of the movie that people love, and the fact they switch to comedy as a form of energy makes something like Laugh Floor a natural fit. Still would prefer MuppetVision over any of that, though

I would also prefer they gut the theater to do a small dark ride. It better suits both the franchise and the needs of DHS. I don’t know if that building is big enough to hold one or not, but I think they could make it work. If Universal can squeeze Secret Life of Pets in, Disney could do a Monsters dark ride.

That's a strange way to describe "a highly-themed, immersive area dense with turbocharged storytelling and place-making activations". :D

In the announcement, it just says a new theater show. We don’t know as of now if it is a 3d or stage show. The monsters start doing stand up comedy at the end of the movie so a show can fit. Also, basing the main ride of the land on one of the most famous scenes from the movie can work.

Honestly, i hope whatever happens with the “creative discussions” and Len Testa’s comments, i hope this whole situation is a “straw that broke the camels back” moment that makes Disney realize that they can’t replace Everything. No matter what you think of MV3D, the door coaster, the monsters land, or ANYTHING about this, you CANNOT deny that the muppets drama has completely overshadowed this whole project, and everything about it. Instead of “Disney builds new land”, all everyone is talking about is the closure of muppets. This is terrible PR. And whatever happens, I hope Disney learns their lesson to be more careful on choosing what do destroy.

Who am i kidding, Figment is probably next.

Hey, you know what would make this land work a LOT better? Taking a page from Zootopia and using lots of AAs, puppets, and other effects to make it seem densely populated with monsters.

What are the chances that happens, eh?
