Monorail spiel

I think that if you complain about the monorails in any way shape or form, perhaps it's because either you're a Disney purist, or you go too often. My wife and I have been going to Disney World twice a year for 20+ years. I've seen changes in the monorail ie who does the speil, the smells of the monorails themselves, and the fact that they are just plain getting old...but when all things are said and done, the looks on the children and first time monorail riders faces, and the fact that the monorail goes through the lobby of Disney's Contemporary Resort not to mention the awesome ride from the TTC to Epcot, all make the Monorail seem pretty magical to those of us who don't judge but sit back and enjoy the Disney Experiance of just riding a monorail. Sometimes the cars smell like feet...sometimes they smell like tourist sweat...some times they even smell not unlike some Animal Kingdom smells, but all in all, the monorails are, and always will be a big part of the Disney Magic to me and my wife.

Nicely said. The monorails will always be magical regardless of the spiels and smells. Afterall, how many other rides have a cool playset? I wonder if WDW will ever upgrade to a newer fleet though. DL got theirs awhile back. I just hope if they do, they keep the WDW look with the colored stripes. :)

Speaking of Spiels...today while making lunch, I had the TV on in the other room. I couldn't see the picture, but I could hear it. Someplace in the middle of a commercial for some medicine for COPD, I was struck with the thought that the voice I was hearing was very similar to the Father in CoP (kind of appropriate, if true...CoP to COPD). I don't know the name of the person that does the voice over for Carousel and if I did, I don't know what he looks like, nor do I know the name of the person doing the commercial, but, I could have sworn it was the same voice. OK, back to the original thread topic. :angelic: If anybody knows the name of the narrator on CoP, perhaps you can let me know. Thanks!

I seem to recall Pat Boone had some link to CoP and I think boasted he was the narrarator. Father voice actor is listed as Jean Shepherd. Maybe songs were Mr. Boone.

Well, I guess that means I am mistaken since Jean Shepard passed away in 1999. Sure did sound a lot like him. I don't recall Pat Boone ever having anything at all to do with CoP...but I have just proven myself wrong so it is a distinct possibility that I am once again.:depressed:

It sure as hell beats a bus.

Newp buses are much much better, especially for someone who has a fear of heights. There is not enough money in the world to get me on the Monorail again. Newp not gonna happen. Will take the bus, or boat, or ferry or train anything that is ON THE GROUND and not suspended in the air.

My fear of heights is why it takes us 2 days to travel by truck to WDW because there is no way I am getting on a plane. And my fear of heights is why I will more then likely never see Disneyland

We need time for things to happen.
The monorail is a big part of the WDW experience and most likely tied directly to nostalgia for some of us "older" folks. Seeing and riding the monorail for the first time is one of my very first and most vivid WDW memories.

Riding that bad boy in from TTC was the first indication that I was seeing something VERY different from the local theme parks near my house.

For the record I have NEVER smelled anything but that typical air conditioning smell on the monorails.
