O.k. so refurb progress is as follows.

Orange is actually in right now. They were going to do Red, then Black, but decided to do Orange first, then Red, then Black.

Since these models do not have carpet in them, the transition will be very simple, and only take two weeks per train.

They hope to have Orange, Red and Black all finished by Christmas.

Also, apparently, MNSSHP fireworks is the bomb on a fireworks cruise, with an audio feed. jealous

Lime came out a while ago.

Then Gold recently, and Blue (edit, and Pink?)

Four down, three coming up, 5 more to go in 2008.

In order:

Completed:
Lime
(May 2007)
Gold (August 2007)
Pink (September 2007)
Blue (Sept.-Oct. 2007)

Currently being modified:
Orange (October 2007)

Up next:
Red
Black

In no particular order:

Remaining:

Coral, Green, Purple, Silver, and Yellow

On a side note, they were running 11 of the twelve monorails on the system yesterday for a couple hours...Don't see that too often. Also they are always running the "modified" monorails on the Express beam for right now until the rest are modified.

Yep, the modified monorails have been running pretty much primarily on the Express beam. If one does go on the Epcot or Resort beam, it pretty much always gets moved back to Express in time for the fireworks exit from the Magic Kingdom. It is quite amazing to see how many more people those trains can hold.

The modified trains make exits go so much smoother. Now those behemoth strollers with the big rubber bicycle wheels can fit in any car of the train, as well as guests with wheelchairs and ECVs if necessary!

Right. No seats in the center, just 4 bars to hang out in. Large enough for double wides strollers and ecv's (although, admittedly its nice to hold on to the center rack when you are in a wheelchair I hear!)

They often run 11 trains. 4/3/4 happens all the time in busy season.

The funny thing was, that it wasn't that busy the other day. I know running four has to add some capacity, but I don't see how much when the trains, especially on the express beam, constantly have to hold for long periods because they continually catching up to each other.

Hey, I never understood why the monorails on the express line slow down in the Contemporary. Is the reason noise? What does happen if one goes blasting through there at top speed. Also, I'm visually impaired, so don't flame me for this question. How do they keep bugs out of the Contemporary with the large holes in the sides for the monorails to run straight through it?

I don't know the actual answer to this, but I seem to remeber the temperature in the cars get a lot hotter when passing through the hurricane doors, maybe they heat it up to a level that would make bugs not want to come through?

There are huge "blowers" in the four monorail doors that create a wall that keeps most things out.

There are certain speed zones express drivers have to comply by when driving through stations. Contemporary is 15 (If I recall correctly). One reason why drivers have to drive slower is because driving faster might blow out the front cab window.

In very windy days, even when drivers comply to the speedzone they can be blown out anyways. Also, its a safety thing I'm sure as well. If they went through at 30 or 40 mph, I can't imagine the proximity to guests waiting for the resort line would feel o.k.

Per busyness -- it was columbus day week. Busier at the parks. Plus they've got Epcot food and wine, cramming up EPCOT.
