Monorail Question

I love how people have to fold up the strollers when getting on Disney Busses (it creates more room for other people).

So it got me thinking why don't people have to fold up their strollers getting on the monorail?

It would do the same thing as the busses and make more room. I wonder if Disney doesn't want a log jam of people opening them as they got off or something.

They're really is no room on the busses. You have a narrow walkway in the middle and a few steps halfway. It would block people from moving through the bus whereas on the monorail you have a big open space in the middle.

I would think it would slow down the crowds trying to get on and off the monorail. Thinking of the TTC, the cast members seem to be more worried about getting people to move and fill in the space to board and be ready for the arrival of the next monorail.

There would be a lot of reasons for the stroller discrepancy. One of many is that there is no place to put a folded stroller on the monorail that wouldn't take up as much room as an open one. It would also require that the rider would have to be more aware then usual about how to hang on to it since there no seat backs to wedge them behind. Already mentioned is that DOT regulates the folding of strollers because the physical design of the buses would mean that unfolded strollers would be blocking the avenue of escape in the event of an accident, fire or whatever. The design of the monorail is such that doors on either side of each seating area would be accessible no matter if a stroller were there or not. I'm sure that there are other reasons, but the biggest is the DOT regulation that, at this point, does not apply to other means of transportation be it, monorails or ferry. I do believe it applys to some of the smaller boats that have basically the same configuration as the buses.

Granted I have never had to use a stroller but I will be in September If you have to fold up a stroller and take a child out etc for a less than 2 minute drive seems pointless, I think it would take up more room. If my DH myself and daughter got on I would be sitting with her next to me and my husband next to us with stroller in front. Taking up the whole seat, if the stroller isnt folded up only one of us are sitting so I think it takes up the same amount of room.

Monorails seem to arrive much more frequently than busses. I don't see the time to unload and fold up strollers beneficial compared to how quickly the next monorail arrives.

You have to remember that is was never done in the interest of how quickly the monorail arrives. It is a pre-determined safety factor. If they don't see any eminent danger or access blockage, they don't attempt to regulate it.
