Monorail Question

I will be staying at the Hilton at WDW for a conference next week and was wondering if I would be able to use the monorail to travel between different Disney Resorts. I would like to be able to visit the other resorts for both dining and entertainment. Would this be possible? I do not plan on going into any of the parks, so no tickets.

If this is possible where should I go to get to the monorail?

Thanks,
John

Hey Slappy, you don't think it would be difficult for a homeless person to get to a monorail station? Is it walking distance from any areas in greater Orlando or Kissimmee? As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure WDW security will be paying you a visit the minute you start walking on one of their roadways. My point being, I find it hard to believe a begger or homeless person has the ability or the means to get to the monorail due to the fact it's not easily accessible without another mode of transportation, therefore, I don't see it being a problem, nevermind a problem significant enough to implement policy on. :)

I just got back last week from Disney. Nobody checks for tickets when you hop on the Monorail at the Magic Kingdom or one of the Magic Kingdom Resorts. But they do check for park tickets at the TTC. I stayed at the Polynesian and would walk over to the TTC to go to EPCOT and every day there was a cast member standing at the gate asking to see your park tickets. Later in the afternoon there was nobody there, but in the morning there was.

Hi,
Moustronaut is correct in that the WDW monorail only travels around the 7 Seas Lagoon, and from the TTC to Epcot.

I've always understood that while Hilton, Grosvenor Resort, or any of the hotels on Hotel Plaza... are hotels that are not run by Disney, they do , in fact, sit on Disney property, and any guests there are accorded rights to WDW transportation, including monorails. When we stayed at what is now the Holiday Inn (formerly the Howard Johnson), we were able to take Disney buses to any other part of WDW.

Hope this helps,
Irene

When I picked up an Extra Hours shift at the TTC to do the ticket checking, I was told that the reason that the tickets are checked is so that we can catch Guests who don't have tickets and direct them to the ticket windows at the TTC. If they were to continue onto the monorail without tickets, they would get to the Magic Kingdom and not find any of the ticket windows open, then have to return to the TTC to buy their tickets, anyway. Later in the day, tickets are sold at the Magic Kingdom, but, in the morning, Guests coming through the TTC have to buy their tickets before boarding the ferry or monorail. This also applies to Guests who have vouchers, but have not yet exchanged them for tickets.
Well there you go - I learn something new every day :D

Ancient roots

Some of the confusion stems from the days when there were A through E tickets for the rides. Also in that booklet was a ticket for transportation. Apparently transportation was a different division/company and that's how the figured out how to divide up the costs for the booklet and pay for the monorails. But back then there were no busses of which to speak. There was only the MK and you took the monorail or ferry from TTC. I think there was also a ticket in the booklet for park admission.

The on property non-Disney hotels at the the Walt Disney Village ran a separate bus line to get you to MK. I think that is stll a different transport system for those hotels today. The Shades of Green resort also runs its own busses from the resort to the TTC. From there you can pick up the Disney bus. Seems like I saw a Shades of Green bus making stops at Downtown Disney Marketplace and PI last month.
