"Mommy Bloggers"

I suppose because its a specific site directed at people seeking out this kind of information, where as you have people like my cousin in law who just blogs about her days....chores she did, bathing the kids. Not a specific topic other then the days of her life.

Specific TOPICS, I don't mind as much. Like health food blogs, travel blogs, or craft blogs or whatever. Specific topics geared towards a specific genre, but just.....life stuff? That's what Facebook is for ;)
People come here to discuss the minutiae of Disney planning. We discuss. Back and forth.

Blogs...I just don't get it. I'm not even very interested in my life...and I live it. Can't see why anyone else would care.
There is no rule that blogs have to be about one's life in general. These "mommy bloggers" are doing exactly what is done here, but on their own dedicated blog instead of through message board posts. They record the minutia of their Disney vacations, planning, trip reports, tips, etc. They can respond to comments on their posts, or ignore them. It's a slightly different format with the same content.

Why would I do that?
I was speaking more to just how easy it is, not suggesting you do it. So little is required to actually do it, that people acting as though they're doing something special is just silliness.

I don't necessarily know that WDW is changing their demo or plans based on what the mommy bloggers say. Rather they are trying to jump on the waves of mommy bloggers and ensure that they have some who know (sometimes) what they are talking about, and are likely to put a positive spin on things.

I do not know what mommy bloggers are. Are they bloggers who are moms?

I do know that almost everyone has a blog about Disney and most of these folks promote their dumb blogs on the Disney boards, which I find mildly annoying. Many of these blog people don't even know what they're talking about, but refer you to their blog for info, lol.

As a woman who happens to be a mother, I am not impressed or sucked in by people who have a blog. It doesn't mean they know wth they're talking about. It just means they (or someone close to them) have a little more tech knowledge than I do and they want to be recognized in some way.

Mommy bloggers are (were) blogs that were written by moms. And a few became very popular, one of them recommending your product could get you a decent sales bump, kinda like Oprah's book club. So companies started to pander to these blogs, giving them freebies in return for positive reviews, etc. One of the major reasons why the FTC said blogs needed to disclose when they got things for free was mommy bloggers. They worked much the same way as the well-informed soccer mom would tell all her friends about a great new thing she just found, but have a much larger reach and scope.

I agree....I think its more a change in marketing or tapping a market rather than changing a plan or direction.

I thought so.

We had been bringing our family of 4 to WDW in the time frame outlined in as 1990-2000's.
There wasn't anyone begging to over plan. You went to a travel agent, they pulled up packages by several companies and you picked the one with the best price and perks like, free breakfasts, free recreation like bikes, paddleboats. We didn't have to plan. We walked up to any restaurant we wanted waiting sometimes in lobby area and were seated. The only reservation we ever held were additional cost affairs. We did the Empress Lilly breakfast and when it was brought online, the Halloween Party, $15.00. Same for the extra fee to stay in the parks after closing generally once a week. None of this required planning. We did it when we got down there if we felt like it. It was Disney who saw $$$ to make it a requirement for advance reservations, not the Moms. Same with the cancelation fees for no shows. It is about Dollars for Disney not Mommy.

The timeline is really off too. PC's and Apple computers were not overly common in households in the early 1990's. Heck being online was not common or user friendly until the free disc days of dial up AOL. It was so slow nobody would have had time to do this and PCs were very expensive. When my kids were small in the 90's, more mid 90's teachers were being taught to use computers and so were most Moms and Dads. The blogs didn't even become overly popular until well after the dawn of the plethora of Disney Websites. And if you take a good look at the list of good established Disney Forums, it was Men that established the forums and pushed the posting/discussions we have today. True Blogs are popular today but they are equally popular among Men too. Another real popular Disney sight that has always pushed the bar with forums, podcasts, magazines, newscasts and now touted as a master blogger. Does speaking engagements on how to Blog. Yep, a man. A successful man in the Disney media world. These are the people who started all the discussions, advice, hints. Not the Moms at in that era. I can think offhand one Woman who has been successful in this arena. Her sight being All Ears and I wouldn't be disrespectful and reduce her to a Mommy Blogger. It is sights like this one that brought us in touch with daily workings of Disney and Disney had real feedback to view and see how the fan base was really feeling.

And it is Disney that is pushing the changes and the fan base reacts. I've seen more fans posting negative reactions to 180 ADRs and being tagged like cattle with a wristbands forcing more planning verses Mommy begging for more ways to plan.

And when Disney wanted to push the Magic in the new millennium, what fan was declared the Chief Magical Officer? Justin. A man.
