I have a question about POR, whats the difference in Preferred Rooms and Royale rooms? Is it just the theme in they Royals? Are they in as good a location as the Preferred ones?
Preferred rooms are in the Alligator Bayou section. They are preferred due to their proximity to the food court and bus stop..

The Royal Room are in the Mansions section and are a completely different decor than the other rooms in the resort. There location is somewhat comparable to a Preferred room.

When I was reading your last TR and you were disappointed with the value I felt your pain! I also decided the values aren't for me. You guys will love a moderate and you probably won't think to turn back to a value.

Resort size, POFQ is compact. I have not stayed but family has. They were OK with the resort but not much Disney theming. I have stayed at POR and CSR. I love the POR resort, but the buses are the worst on property. People will argue that with me until they are blue in the face. We lost an entire day of a 7-day trip waiting on buses for POR. It was so bad we started using POFQ and walking back to POR.

CSR in my opinion is the best Disney moderate. There are several reasons. Even though you are usually at the back of the resort, getting to the lobby is simply jumping n the first bus and riding it to the front. The buses were almost as fast as Pop, hardly ever crowded, and always running. Because it is a convention resort, it can sometimes be crowded at the QS restaurant. Never crazy busy, but just more noticeable. It also has a much better selection of food but that comes with a slightly higher price too. The pool area is one of the best on property. It is never as crowded as other because conventioneers don't go to the pool. That means about 20-50% of the resort are not pool goers. CSR is minutes from AK (5 minute drive), DHS (5 minute drive), and Epcot 8 minute drive). MK (~15 minute drive) is a little bit longer as is the case with all moderates.

We've done Caribbean Beach twice, French Quarter once, Riverside 4 times all with young kids. Never had a problem with any of them. French Quarter is obviously the most compact but the size of Riverside was never a concern for us. We always requested a certain building and always got what we wanted. It's large but if you choose centrally located you'll be fine. Port Orleans offers more options than the others. You have two resorts. Two pool areas. Two food courts. Two bus lines at certain times. The boat to Disney Springs is also a plus. You really can't go wrong.

I share your feelings about the value resorts and a good alternative if you are a camping family for the same money as a value resort is fort wilderness. It is right by MK, one of the original WDW facilities and doesn't feel like a crowded motel. Also for moderates my children at 3 and 8 loved Coronado Springs. They loved the theme and pool area and although they both prefer WL or the Contemporary they had nothing bad to say about Coronado
