Moderate resorts?

So, those who know me, know that I've always taken down a significant other to Disney with me over the summer. And it's happening again (for the fourth year in a row). This time, though, I want it to be super special (I'll admit it finally- I think he's The One) since he hasn't been to WDW in 7 years.

I want to stay in a moderate resort, because I want to do more than an All Star resort, but we can't afford deluxe (even with my CM discount!). So simply put- which resort would you recommend we stay at? He likes Coronado Springs, I liked Port Orleans Riverside. I also liked the idea of being able to relax on a hammock, but I've stayed at Caribbean Beach before, and he's seen it when he went to visit his cousins (he was in marching band, and lead the parade once- his cousins came up from southern Florida to watch).

He also seems to be plotting of doing something romantic this summer, so that "next time we go down will be even more special"

What really makes me get this face :)veryconfu ) is that he's telling me that since I know Disney inside and out, that I should plan the trip. I don't want to be overbearing, but I'd like to eat at a nicer restaurant (his only request- no character dining), but NOT Victoria and Albert's (this time) at least once. I also want this to be more romantic AND fun (okay, he's turning me into a cheeeeeeesy romantic)...

HELP!

Any and all tips and opinions are welcome!

EDIT: I'm also thinking that if we go over spring break next year, that I'll take him to the Atlanta Braves spring training game. The Braves are his favorite team, after all!

Port Orleans French Quarter is sort of romantical. (Insert Monster's Inc. Mike singing "Me and yooouuuu...you and meeeeee.....both of us togetherrrrrrrrr"). The food court isn't great.

I like Coronado Springs too. Not as intimate as POFQ, but the rooms are good, the food court's good...all in all, you could do worse.

As for restaurants, anything in Epcot (except China)....maybe Artist's Point at the Wilderness Lodge? I've not dined there, but people rave over it.

Well, here are some ideas:

For Hotel, defintiely Port Orleans Riverside. It's bigger then french quarter, which is the point, because at night you can walk along the walkways, it is very intimate, very calming. Not to mention it has the BEST foodcourt at WDW, Bob Jackson (if you haven't seen him, that is a MUST), Carriage rides, you can rent a boat, and a boat to DtD for nightlife (if that's your thing). You can do biking together, fish together, etc. It allows a ton of variety of things to do as a couple. Not to mention the rooms are really nice (even two sinks in the bathrooms! you can each have your own!)

For restaraunts, here are my feelings (and why):

Le Cellier - Great food, but beyond that, it is a more intimate setting. It is a bit quieter (when there are no screaming children that is...), and more importantly, it's more "closed off" from the rest of the park then the other restaraunts. Yeah, it's "dark", and it has no windows... but that is part of the reason WHY we like it so much! It helps us forget we are in a park for a moment (which, as much as we love disney, is a treat at times).

Tony's in MK if you can get a nighttime seat outside for Spectro Magic. Nothing more romantic than sipping on wine, watching those floats and listening to the music.

California Grill during Wishes: need I say more? :)

I second everything abe bb said.
Riverside is where DH and I honeymooned and where we always go back to when we can splurge a little.
LeCellier is our absolute fav resturant. One trip we ate there 3 times in a week.

 Romantical is not a word

As to the romance-factor - Port Orleans French Quarter is the most romantic of the moderates...Riverside is crawling with familes with young children = not romantic; FQ and RIV share the single most romantic thing at Disney World - the boat to Downtown Disney, especially at night. If this guy is "the one" then you go to DD by boat after dark, have dinner at Fulton Crab House (On the steamboat - very exensive but wonderful) and then take the boat back to FQ - lights of DD reflecting across the lake; dark river ride back to the hotel.

yes it is - I use that word all the time... :)

As for romance - I'll vote for Coronado... that's where we were Nine Months (Plus 5 months... DD is 5 months) ago, I'd say it was very romantical for us! :D The hammocks and the setting is very laid back and romantic... we loved every minute of our stay there! Anyone you choose will be romantic b/c it'll be the two of you - but personally I like the ambiance of having a lake view right out my front window... not to mention the food was wonderful, and the pool was fantastic too! Yep, my vote is def Coronado!

I am going to say Port Orleans French Quarter.
I love LeCellier, it's one of my favorite, if not my favorite restaurant. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Another vote here for PO French Quarter. It's the smaller and more grown-up "half" of Port Orleans. You have the beautiful gardens and squares to stroll in, the availability of the carriage ride and the boat to DTD, as well as being close enough to PO Riverside to be able to take full advantage of its offerings (restaurants, stroll-able paths, pools, etc)

I guess I confused my Port Orleans confused!

I wanted to go to the one that was more like the mansions in Louisiana, because it sounded more romantical than the one that was all fun and games. I AM insisting that we go to Mitsukoshi Teppenyaki Dining Room, just so I can mess with the Japanese CMs minds (yay fluency in Japanese!)

Your use of the word "mansions" is what got everyone confused...there are traditional "mansion estate" type buildings in RS, as well as "bayou" type bungalo buildings...French Quarter is composed of wrought-iron covered French Quarter New Orleans townhouse buildings...if that is what you mean, then that is FQ...if you actually want the "estate" looking mansion type buildings, those are in RS.

Yes! I wanted the "estate" looking mansion type buildings.

...But...which one generally has fewer children running around? He understands that while I love children, and I love working with them in WDW, that I can't STAND when they're running around like nudnicks (crazy people in Yiddish) and run into me- especially when they run into my knees!

Riverside has way more children. It attracts more families. FQ attracts more adults. I absolutely never stay at Riverside anymore, as I have grown to like the adult atmosphere at FQ. NOTE: You can't get away from children anywhere at WDW, but FQ comes the closest in the moderate resorts to being able to pretend that there aren't many of them around.

Also Coronado has less children because it is a convention hotel and they do have a totally awesome pool. I happen to like RS better because you have the Boatwright's restaurant for breakfast. I prefer to have a sit down breakfast and not fight the animals at the food court first thing in the morning.

I vote POR, Request Magnolia Bend(Mansion Buildings),Partaree Place which is the "fanciest" of the buildings(if you stay there read the "history" of the of the resort in the "Newspaper" that you will be given when you check in). To be brief each mansion gets less and less fancy right on down to the bayou buildings because as they were build up the river they had less and less money to spend on each one. I know that being that you were a CM you know how everything has a story.

V&A is deffinately a nice place but not that romantic seing how your maid and butler V&A stand and watch over you while you eat.

As far as the kids, yes POR has their share but its not like AS where they are running loose everywhere.
