Mobile Ordering?

Sorry if this is a very basic question but I’m seeing mixed information.

We’re heading to WDW later this year for the first time since 2017. I know that when the parks reopened after the pandemic, mobile ordering for quick service was pretty much required. Is this still the case? I’m quite happy doing the mobile ordering but I don’t like the idea of having to order in advance. Can you effectively just place an order for collection ASAP (if it’s not too busy)? Really just want to know if we can turn up at a quick service place and be eating within the next 10 mins or so rather than having to order then collect an hour+ later.

Cast members have returned to registers at quick service locations so mobile ordering is no longer mandatory.

That said, you may want to check mobile order window availability about an hour before you want to eat. Depending on crowds, time slots go fast and it may not be possible to arrive, mobile order and be eating in 10 minutes.

Ah, thank you. We will be there during what is supposed to be a quieter time so hopefully we won’t have an issue with being able to grab food when we want it rather than having or order in advance.

There really isn't a quieter time anymore.

When are you going?

Haha, I keep hearing that. We’ll be there the last week of August and start of September. As long as I don’t have to plan everything in advance I’ll be happy. I don’t mind making table service reservations, and I can kinda get behind Genie+ even though I really don’t like that or the previous revision of fastpass, but having to pre-order quick service food just seems like a step to far.

every time we have used mobile ordering it has been no problem. we get there, order, and in less than 10 minutes we have our food.in fact we have ordered at times from 5 min utes away and still no problems, plus we get a table and avoid counter lines, all good, imo.

Excellent. That’s exactly what I was hoping to hear.

This is the new Disney. Everything has to be planned in advance.

It was an easy and convenient option for us on our last trip. I’d probably keep using the option if it stays around. Like guests are advised about any dining spot… planning on eating off the most popular times definitely can get you your food faster. When the crowds are all lining up to eat at the same hours no matter how well staffed the spots are it’s going to back up your times.
We always got our food in a timely manner and orders came out hot. Not everyone could say the same.

When it first came out, I was more “old school” and waited in line. Now, I use it all of the time. It’s quick, easy, and super convenient. We usually find a table, order on the phone, click I’m Here, and wait for the notification. Most times, it’s ready in less than 10 minutes. Plus the mobile ordering window usually has no line.

Count me as excited to try mobile ordering. I am definitely in the camp that misses the spontaneity that is mostly long gone....that said I can see the value here. Find what you want 10 to 20 min before ready to eat and order and by the time you walk over with the kids it's ready.

How is seating around QS stops in the parks? Plentiful or hard to get?

In our most recent two trips, I found seating the the QS areas easier to get than in past trips. It somewhat depends on the restaurant and park - Pecos Bill's is always busy. But mobile ordering has cut down on people holding a table while someone stands in line for half an hour waiting to order food. Having CMs at the entrances checking for mobile orders has really discouraged this practice and made finding seating much easier.

What I have started to do is place my order before I even get to the park. It has worked pretty well every time I have done it this way.

I tried it before the pandemic (just to order some Dole Whips) and it was kind of neat to bypass the line, but then during the pandemic when everyone HAD to do it, it wasn't so neat anymore and I didn't like it. I have a memory of large crowds congregating outside Cosmic Rays and a 2-hour window for Woody's... I'm glad to see it's no longer required.

I prefer to sit down, look at the menu, and then order like a civilized person lol. (I say it like that because my husband likes to look at menus in advance even at home and I refuse to do it. I always tell him that.) :)

My favorite is placing the order for spyglass grill as I get off the skyliner and by the time I walk over, my order is ready (or just about!). If it’s breakfast then I’ll place my order while the Joffrey’s stand is making my coffee.

Some of the busier locations, like docking bay, it seems easier to just wait in line sometimes but it may have smoothed out since my last visit.
