Here's what Disney has to say about the film:

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers.

After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

Disney realized they’re bleeding money and nothing they’re doing is working with animation, so knowing Moana is the most streamed movie on D+ they reworked a kids show they were making into a theatrical release as fast as they possibly could. Without Lin, who was the heart of the original Moana and a huge part of why it's so beloved in the first place, directed by the story director of Strange World, which was a disaster.

This sounds like it will be on the level of a direct to video threequel, but actually released in theaters instead of just VHS.

I don't care that LMM isn't back, it just means that we'll have another copycat like we did with Wish, but the original was made by animation legends, John Musker and Ron Clements. This is made by a nobody. What happened to "we let the directors decide if they come up with a good story???"
Bob Iger turned Disney Animation into Disney Toons - this movie is basically Cinderella 2, Atlantis 2 and Belle's magical prison, and four years of sequels!! (Is the Frozen franchise any different than Tinkerbell at this point??).
This is the most disheartening thing to me honestly. It's so depressing to see what Disney Animation is turning out to be.
