MNSSHP - Types of Candy

For those who have been, what kinds of candy did you receive while trick or treating? DD7 is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, so Halloween is a high risk time. At home, I usually buy a few bags of safe candy since I know she'll bring home a lot of things she just can't have. Just debating about whether or not I should pack some candy in my suitcase for MNSSHP. Thanks! :)

"There are dozens of types of candy available, including everything from off-brand candy corn to giant Toblerone bars. When doing my own MNSSHP trick or treating, I’ve generally received a pretty even mix of sugar-based (Dots, US Smarties, lollipops, Twizzlers, etc.) and chocolate-based (mini Hershey bars, M&Ms, Tootsie Rolls, etc.) candy. Many of the stations will have an alternative treat, such as boxed raisins, to give to guests with food allergies. Be sure to ask the cast members at the trick or treat stations if you have alternative treat needs."

If I remember correctly from last year, you can stop by City Hall to exchange your candy you've collected for ones that are suitable to whatever dietary need you might have. But it's a good idea to bring some bags of candy from home just in case they don't offer that option this year.

Thanks everyone!!! Sounds like we'll have a lot of options for her. Also good to hear that we likely won't have to deal with things like Snickers and Reese's. I may still bring a bag of Kisses so we have a safer chocolate. Drives me nuts (no pun intened) how many things have cross contamination risks. :(

It will range all over the place. Some is no name random old style stuff, others will be snack size name brands. Chocolate, hard candy, etc. Some will have "healthy" options as mentioned, and others might have things that aren't food at all. We have gotten activity "books", coloring stencils, etc. Depends on what new movies/shows are coming out and how much (if any) the other Disney divisions are willing to pay for.

My alternative treat need is that I need giant Toblerone bars!

I think you should have your epi pen handy all night, I know there are a lot of people who open and eat their candy and there is a ton of peanut based candy given out. In fact, that picture posted could have been from us last year, lots of candy! If I had a child with a peanut allergy I would be scared to death of cross contamination from others eating candy around us. Good luck and be safe!

They ABSOLUTELY DO have candy with nuts in it. Not all of it, of course, but some. If you want to switch out with her, buy some to switch.

Other than that, it is terribly hard to say. Sometimes you get loads of good candy like Snickers, Reese's, Kit Kats, M&Ms, etc. Other years, it's all cheap crap. Sometimes, it's a mix of both.

I got a bunch of either Almond Joys or Mounds last year. Can't remember which because I don't like either one. Whatever it was, @Nemo14 likes the one I got a lot of, lol. Maybe she knows what I got.

I have no idea what will be there this year, but you might want to prepare for nuttiness! :)

We usually are equipped with 2 EpiPens + liquid allergy meds. I'm thankful that she's not contact allergic and is used to not diving into her candy until we've sorted it, but I will likely bring along wipes (both baby and Clorox) so we can keep her hands clean and wipe surfaces.

:)

I actually like them both, so I don't remember, but I think it was Mounds....

I used the ones I didn't like for our own trick-or-treaters on Halloween.
