MNSSHP Questions

I had some questions about MNSSHP and hopefully you can help.
We have always wanted to go to down for the Halloween festivities and decided that this fall we are going to shoot down for a couple of days just to say we finally did it.
We planned on going for one of the September dates and I was wondering if everything is up and ready by that point in time or do we have to wait until October to get the full experience?
I read that the party starts at 7 but you can get in without a park pass at 4. Is this always the case?
If we couldn't go, are the tickets refundable?

Tickets are not refundable.

The party is exactly the same on the first night as any of the later dates - it is in full swing right from the start

Yes you can enter at 4pm with your party ticket.

Yes everything is in full swing in Sept. And yes you can always get in with your hard ticket for the MNSSHP at 4pm that date. And no, I don't think those tickets are refundable, sorry.

Not often but it has happened where the first several parties did not have the special popcorn buckets to buy (that are offered some years), or one of the special treats ready to buy. Happens RARELY but it has happened. Has happened to us with the very first MVMCP last year. They are supposed to have gingerbread waffles at Sleepy Hollow but only still had the pumpkin waffles they used for MNSSHP. Told us they would have the gingerbread soon. Still good but things like that have occurred. All the entertainment and decorations etc.are always ready from the very first party though! No worries. Enjoy! :)

If you are more interested in going to MK in the late afternoon and evenings, this is a good idea. In general, during the parties (after 7:00 pm) the lines for attractions are shorter than the lines during the day.

I've found that right after Hallowishes, it is a great time to head to POTC and JC followed BTMR and Splash as most people tend to go to Tomorrowland or Fantasyland after the fireworks. I don't know why that is what happens, but that has been my experience.

Sorry that you had the problem, but we were at the 2nd MNSSHP last year (which was way earlier than they are even having the parties this year) and they had everything they were supposed to have, popcorn buckets and all. I wouldn't worry OP, that was a rare freak occurrence she experienced at a Christmas party.

Yes I did not want the OP to worry either but I had it happen to me once and have heard others (very few) say it happened at one of the MNSSHP dates before in the very beginning. That is why I mentioned RARELY in my post but also wanted them to be aware it has happened just in case. I doubt they will have any issues though as it is so uncommon for that to happen each year. :)

The ONLY things missing from the mnsshp last year we went to were the headless horseman on horseback, ( they said the rain and occasional thunder might scare the horse....don't know if that is truly the reason he wasn't in the parade...very plausible though) and the stage shows we're not performed. (they diligently tried to dry the stage, but, it seemed to start raining just moments after they had thoroughly dried it. My wife was crushed, but, as she said...it was no one's fault and the whole party was amazing regardless.)

I haven't looked at the calendar for this year but I think last year if you wanted to do what you are suggesting you would be going Thursday and Friday, I think those are the only 2 nights that had it back to back early in the cycle...

Beware that it will still be very hot in September so dress in cooler costumes.

I'm pretty sure if the street is wet the horse gets cut for safety reasons.

Totally. And that makes perfect sense. Honestly, the explanation we were given by a cast member made sense as well. I have only been around a hand full of horses. When I was a counselor at a YMCA camp in Colorado we did a skit as three bandits on horse back, no one told me a blank fired from a pistol would scare a horse. But, it did. I've driven cars at 100 miles an hour that lost control...but that's nothing compared to the absolute white knuckle fear I experienced on the back of that timid trail horse.
The cast member could have told me the horse didn't like Mickey ears and that was the reason he wasn't going to appear...I have no problem never being within a couple thousand yards of those things!

But, all kidding aside, the logic of it being a safety thing is 100% correct. It's just something that was not present for the party we attended.

I'm not a "horse person" either, but I'm always amazed at the temperament of those horses, who remain completely calm with all manner of noise, blinking lights, and flashes going off around them. It's a testament, I assume, to the work their trainers and handlers do.

Oh yea! Any animal that performs in that kinda arena deserves high praise! And I would have enjoyed seeing the headless horseman. One of my favorite animated films is the Legend of Sleepy Hallow

They push having the horse run, one party last year he went down on the turn in Liberty Square, after that they slowed him down to a brisk trot. Amazing no one got hurt.
