MNSSHP Costumes

We are going to the MNSSHP in a few weeks and I had a question about costumes. My daughter originally didn't want to dress up but has now changed her mind. The problem is that the costume she wants to wear is not Disney related. Does it matter? It's just a fancy black dress that actually lights up. I'm going to buy it for her if we won't get weird looks for having a non-Disney related costume. She's twelve and it's the first time I've seen her excited about this trip!

Costumes do not have to be Disney related. The general rules are no full face masks (they are flexible with kids), no gore, and must not pose a safety hazard.

The costume she wants just looks kind of like a witch's dress but has little purple lights on it. I think they are tiny fiber optic lights. No mask or anything.

Thanks for the info....Of course she has already changed her mind on her costume. She found a shorter one. It has a fitter top and kind of fairy like skirt that goes to her knees and devil horns but still no mask so she's still good. It's now ordered and she's very excited.

Thanks again!! I love this site!

We were considering wearing mardi gras masks. Does anyone know if these would be ok? The half mask that go over your eyes. These would be simple and we would not have to wear them from the resort, just put them on when the party started.

I have never worn a Disney related costume, now that I think about it.

I am glad that she found something that she likes!

As far as I understand it, the "no Mask" rule is for safety reasons. They don't want people wandering into other guests or walls because they can't see.

I remember wearing a fancy half mask years ago, and no one had any problems with it.
I could also easily lift it up and wear it on my forehead if I needed to see where the curbs and stairs were.

Last year my hubby went as Jenga(0?) Fett with the full helmet and face shield and my 5 year old went as Yoda with a FULL rubber facemask/headpiece, and no one said anything all night long. Hubby did have the CM's tell him that he couldn't let anyone take pics with him, but that was all.

YAY, we're bringing back the pirates this year, leave in 8 days, and CANNOT WAIT!

Went in 07 without costumes, went in 08 as Elizabeth Swann, hubby was Cap'n Jack, my then eight year old was Will Turner, and my then 4 year old was the Skeleton Helmsman. Went last year as Padme in white battle suit, hubby was Jenga Fett, my 9 year old was Anakin right before he turned to the dark side and my 5 year old was Yoda. This year we're resurrecting the Pirates foursome :) Cannot wait to see if hubby gets another thumbs up from the Jack on the parade float and a mock sword duel with Barbossa again :) I'm so excited, it's like I"m the five year old!
