Derek Jeter has announced this will be his final season before retirement

It was hard to grasp but I knew it was going to come at some point. I'm glad he got it off his chest because I believe his contract in his final year if I'm not mistaken and well, I think everything he through last year clearly played a part in his decision. More importantly, he's going to go out on his own terms. Ever since I first start watching baseball, Jeter was the player I followed a lot during my childhood. He's my favorite player and I think he always will be. He may not have the stats but he always gave it his all. 5 titles, countless all-stars, gold gloves, etc. I'll never forget the first Yankee game I ever went to when I was 10 and lo and behold, Jeter hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first en route to a 4-0 win that day.
Anyway, It's just rare these day to have any player spend an entire career with one team. I think with free agency and players valuing money or titles even more these days, we may never see another athlete for quite some time spend their entire career with one team.

Twins fan here. They signed Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes to try and fix their major pitching issues. They should be better, but that's it. I actually like Hughes better than Nolasco. Hitting they will still be awful. Mauer moving to first will help keep him healthy, but they will need more power from him at that position. Joe, please hit the weights. 23 million is a lot money for a smaller market team.

As a Yankee fan, good luck with Hughes. Extremely inconsistent. But maybe since he will be pitching in a larger ballpark it could help since he have up tons of home runs at Yankee Stadium

Sox Fan baby! I like the look of the team, but then again, I hated their look in Spring Training and they ended up winning it all. So that means nothing!

Just ready for baseball!!

The Twins look kind of bleak now but the future is bright. We have the AA Rockcats here and they had future all stars here last year. Be ready, Miguel Sano, Alex Meyer and Byron Buxton are on their way - all are big time players upcoming.

I'm not expecting a lot from Hughes, but Target Field should definitely help him. Not really a Nolasco fan. He had a solid season last year, but not very impressive before that. Hughes is a bit younger, and I feel has a higher ceiling than Nolasco. Like others are saying they have some really good looking young prospects. Maybe a few years down the road they will be competitive again.

Chicago White Sox - Should be an interesting year with all of the additions late last season and this off-season. Not likely it will be worse than the debacle of last season. The team definitely got younger. Less at bats for Konerko and Dunn with Abreu taking over should help since they were both awful last season. Losing Reed as the closer is a gamble, but this team always seems to find a closer.(Bobby Jenks, Reed, etc). Pitching is good at the top of the rotation with Sale, but unproven the rest of the way. If Abreu hits anything like he did in Cuba, we will score a lot of runs. Eaton at the lead off spot will help with his OBP.

Not sure if Konerko will get any type of retirement send off from the other teams, but should be acknowledged by each.

I'm watching the Dodgers-DBacks first spring training game on MLB TV with Vin Scully broadcasting. This is his 66th season doing Dodgers' games.

I'm an Orioles fan, if you couldn't tell already, and I'm so excited for Spring Training to officially start. We had our first Intrasquad game today, which means less than nothing, but is still fun to watch regardless. Chris Davis hit his first homerun and I hope to see many more of those in the coming months. I'm not sure I expect him to reach last year's numbers, I see him settling in somewhere in between the numbers of '12-'13, about .270 with 40 or so homeruns. I'm certainly not going to complain about that if it does end up happening that way.

Our newest additions, Ubaldo Jimenez and Nelson Cruz didn't see the field today but have seemed to mesh with the other player's on the team already. JJ Hardy, when asked about Cruz joked, "We all know him from playing against him or playing with him. I played with him in Milwaukee, half of this clubhouse played with him in Texas."

This is how I see our lineup/rotation panning out for opening day...(Don't even ask me about the bench and bullpen, the questions are endless)

LF Lough
3B Machado
CF Jones
1B Davis
DH Cruz
RF Markakis
C Wieters
SS Hardy
2B Flaherty

Tillman
Jimenez
Chen
Gonzalez
Norris/Gausman (All depending on the Spring Gausman has, if he's lights out, he'll win the rotation spot with Norris going to the pen.)

What is your bold prediction for this next season?

I'm going to say that the Astros and Mariners will battle it out for fourth place all season despite the Mariners hefty offseason moves. The Astros have quietly improved this offseason and I don't think the Mariners moves are enough to keep up with 3 of the most talented teams in the American League.

Yay, another O's fan! I'm so excited for the season to start. I won't be able to go to opening day unfortunately, after going two years in a row, but I'm hoping to go during that series with the Red Sox. Excited to see the new acquisitions for the team, though Manny Machado is still my favorite player. Chris Davis is a close second.

Nothing like Braun hitting a home run at his first spring training at bat on the second pitch he saw. That doesn't raise any speculation among the league I bet. Im from WI and I used to love Braun, I haven't quite made up my mind on him yet :banghead:
