Re: Stitch overlay. Yep, Didn't garner much response but I think I got the answer I was expecting. Personally, I wouldn't care either way. It's not like it couldn't still be "Space Mountain" with the area becoming a sort of pavilion.

From Disney's standpoint (and love of all things IP), with the current Space Mountain housing both Alpha and Omega track and with the presumed advent of LLs, the need for both tracks wouldn't be required. Disney could theoretically patch the original track (or swap it out) removing the other to then install an on-theme arcade and a clone of Stitch Encounter with a Meet and Greet. Families with children not old enough or too scared to ride the coaster would then still be able to get their Stitch fix. It's bonkers I know, but I wouldn't put it past Disney.

That's the gist of the armchair in any case. Best relegated to the Imagineering forum, but it's such a simple and non-creative idea that I wouldn't put it past Disney were it possible. It's not like they haven't thought of it.

But whatever they end of ultimately doing here I hope it's received well. It's long overdue for an overhaul. I do wonder if IP integration would fast track things.

An arcade was already added to Space Mountain, removed and not revisited when the added a ride based on a video game.

True. For this hypothetical it would be a fully-realized arcade not a row of screens along a path. I guess I was envisioning a sort of digital playground, a Play Pavilion-lite but themed around the Stitch IP. Though a holding area similar to what was imagined with New Fantasyland's Dumbo would also suffice, I guess. I just think Disney would want to maximize the use of IP within the space and would come up with filler content like an arcade or M&G to justify any radical changes... or changes at all. I see IP as the excuse needed to fast track an overhaul. (as sad as that may seem)

Regardless of what they do, I don't anticipate a retrack without compromise. There's no financial incentive to do anything to Space Mountain.

Cynical perhaps but using the brand awareness of Stitch and the LL monies the IP would generate more than justifies a retrack and then some. Theoretical of course.

Is the threat of structural collapse not enough? (kidding, but am I?)

Side note, when the half a billion number gets thrown out for Cosmic Rewind, I can't help but look around that ride and wonder where all that money went. It's an incredible roller coaster, don't get me wrong, but it's sorely lacking for a ride that cost that sum in comparison to a "more affordable" attraction like RSR or ROTR.

I don't know when Space is going down but they're definitely doing something to it soon, I was watching a recent video (around January of this year I think) of a lights on POV on Omega and there were orange spray paint marks on the track that weren't there before when you compare it to other lights on POVs.

Link to Jan 2025 vid (Look at the bottom of the track 1:20-1:29 for orange paint marks):

Link to older video from 2017 with no marks:

Edit: Had to fix link for older video.

I honestly can't find the orange paint marks from 1:20-1:29 can you share a screen shot?

Also the title and description of this video implies it was filmed 4-5 years ago.

EDIT thanks for the screen shot.

Rather than 4-5 years ago the new footage was filmed this year for SM's 50th.

Edit: Formatting.

Ahh space mountain's 50th... I was thinking MKs 50th. Understood, wonder if anyone has any experience with these kind of marks on rollercoasters? Odd it's only on one section... maybe those parts just need to be replaced.

I rode this four times last week when I was there: Front, 2nd, 3rd, 4th rows. 3rd row was the only uncomfortable seat for me, because the train literally felt like it jumped off the track. Otherwise, I absolutely LOVED it. It was my favorite ride of the trip, and I actually hope they keep the exact same layout. It rocks. If they replace the entire track, I'd like it to stay just the way it is.

I love the original layout so much! a new smooth fast , quiet lift, a retrack, banking some of the curves a little more, add a score that follows the trains, Sync the re-entry tunnel to the sound the way it originally was, bring back the speed ramps and a new engaging set of exit show scenes, and new show scenes specifically for the Peoplemover would be amazing....and honestly blow TRON out of the water. Heck, just restoring the original Home Of Future Living done in a more whimsical way would be such a plus... There have to be some old Horizons pieces laying around in a warehouse that could be used again.... Bring back the fun of The Future....

The supports have been spray painted since I worked there in 2007, when they were originally supposed to gut it and rebuild it in 2008.
