MK Resort rehab updates

I was very fortunate last week to get upgraded at the Wilderness Lodge to concierge. Upon arriving on the 7th floor I quickly figured out why I had been given such a nice surprize, it was being rehabbed! Carpet was just replaced to a more modern light green with tree design. The lounge was in the process of being created. A large large kitchen type room, perfectly themed with granite counters, crushed granite floors, log cabin walls, mahogany cabinets, etc. Also large cast iron doors with amazing detailed work of a deer scene on it. They seemed to spare no expense on the lounge. Also being replaced was the lighting fixtures in all hallways and some furniture. At the one corner of the 7th floor they installed a dark wood mantle that houses a 50 in plasma. Talking to the concierge CM hes said that by end of 2006 all rooms (furniture and all), carpets, hallways, will be rehabbed. Top end custom furniture with flatscreen tvs will be installed in all rooms in the resort. Looks like WL is getting the contemporary/poly treatment. Nice to see Disney investing in their resorts again, they really are key to keeping people in their parks.

FYI taking the boat from WL to MK I could see the south wing rehab at the CR and I have to say it was some of the worst show Ive ever seen. Sheets over the open patio doors or old mattresses. The rooms looked like they were really ransacked for some reason. The wall they had up was too short and transparent.

Really?

You have to be lying.

PLEASE SAY YOU'RE LYING!

Ok, so the rooms at the Wilderness Lodge haven't been in the best condition, but the resort is still less than 12 years old! This kind of spoils the fact that only the two original 1971 resorts were the only ones getting the upscale rennovation with flat screen TV's. Oh well, I still do like the Wilderness Lodge.

Sadly, this likely means a rate increase. Hopefully $199/night rooms will still be offered.

Nice, nice, niiice. Now, it looks like the Grand Floridian is missing out...
The Grand Floridian is definitely missing out on something. No flat screen TV's. The Grand Floridian is upscale and elegent as it is. I guess it'll get a rennovation in a few years.

sounds like all the deluxe resorts are going to be getting some type of room upgrades and price increases soon. With the large number of "cheaper" rooms on property I guess there needs to be more to make the high end resorts stand out.

They are working from the worst of the top down..... probably...

I would Imagine GF getting rehabbed in a few years... maybe in 10 years the Value will have flat screen TVs.. lol

i wouldnt be surprized if all deluxe rooms have flat screens soon. The plasma screen mantle was like nothing ive ever seem before. The tv doesnt go on top of the mantle, it goes inside it. Almost like putting a widescreen tv in your fireplace.

I hope the price stays the same. The WL is known for its great quality at an extremely low price. I am going back for my 4th time in a row. WOOT. Sorry had to get that out.

I am traveling to Wilderness Lodge in September. Should I request a newly renovated room? How bad of shape are the older rooms in? I once stayed in the Dolphin during a renovation and the chair in my room had a huge hole in it. It was not like staying in a deluxe resort...it was way past renovation time and I was told there were no more rooms at the time.
Don't want a repeat of that experience.

I think that WL is a great hotel for a great price as is... a renovation can only make this place even better. I do have to echo what others have said though--- I too am concerned that such a nice-sounding rehab might cause a rise in the prices which (again) are really good for a "Deluxe" Disney hotel.

*PS- welcome to the boards, faith. :)
