My father in law wants is planning a family vacation for all 9 of us in the spring. He loves the MK opening show. He wants to have us be the opening show family. How do you get chosen? Is it something you need to pay for? Please advise.

Pure luck, unfortunately. Although you can increase your odds by being front and center when they come out to warm up the crowd at the turnstiles.

I have a friend working in that area who says...For the usual 9:00 opening they may select the family as early as 7:45 and usually no later than 8:00 as the activity for the family begins at about 8:20. A random cast is assigned to select a family. Be an obvious family in full view in front of the entrance near the entry pods past the security check point. Not scattered all ove rhthe place.Stay near the left most entry pod as you face the entrance. The person doing the selection will walk from your left to right until they see a candidate family. You should not be able to really tell when you are being scouted if they do it correctly. The preferred family will include one or several children. If you wear something fun like Mickey hats or attire it will help you be noticed. You can not reserve or buy the selection. Not even with those horrid rubber bands for Mickey Mouse minus stuff. (sarc) The last thing you want to do is ask. That is a sure way to be skipped over. My friend says she will just say hi and maybe start a friendly conversation. Those "First Visit" buttons on a party of nine or even just the youngsters would be a good touch. If you are staying on property get them at your resort. Good luck and have a great visit.

Be there at least one hour or ninety minutes before they open and then be lucky. Also, keep the family close by and don't have obnoxious children.
