Although not an apples to apples comparison we go every 4th of July to the parks. Like 12/30 and 12/31, the parks have the 4th fireworks displays on both 7/4 and 7/3. I don't really remember seeing any major attendance differences between the 4th and the 3rd. The people who are there for vacation are generally already there and not coming in just for 12/31.
Interesting, thanks for the info, did you notice a difference from the day immediately before or after the 3 and 4th? I may just skip both days

I forgot 24 year olds know everything. 🙄 You don't want any advice, you just want to argue you know best.
...? Bit rude and oddly specific on generalizing an entire age... lol. Discussion forums are for discussions. Looks like you don't want to discuss the perks and minuses of visiting on the 30th. You just want to say you know best.

I've read enough from them across many different threads to know otherwise.

We didn’t this year. The 4th was a Thursday so I don’t think a lot of people left that day, the year we went when the 4th was a Monday I did feel like the park got a bit less crowded for the rest of thr

Epcot tends to draw a pretty good share on the new years dates. It is drinking event and the ball kinda became synonymous with new years with the 2000 gig (which went on for…like…forever)

Honestly, I've been probably 20 times around New Years and it's always pretty crowded, but worse on 12/30 than like 12/26 or 12/27.

I think some people leave after Xmas and a new crop comes in those final 3 days for New Years. For me, 12/31 is by far the most crowded feel I've experienced. Worse than July 4, worse than Easter, worse than Thanksgiving, and worse than Xmas day.

I was there for the Year 2000 and it was insane. Somehow, I think that was more crowded than any time I've ever seen the parks. I think MK closed to new guests at like 9am.

Around January 2, it drops off like a cliff.

Have you been on NYE any year other than 2000? I feel like that year specifically would be difficult to draw crowd comparisons to average NYE crowds?

I've been on NYE probably 19 other times. It's always pretty bad to awful, but I'm a Disney veteran and just make it work for me.

NYE in Epcot ~ 10 years ago was the one day that broke my wife and she said never again. She goes into mosh pits at rock concerts and said the crowd after the fireworks was much worse.

We've been in Disneyland over New Years a couple times and skipped the fireworks. Went to bed at 9PM and rope dropped the next morning while everyone else was sleeping in. :)

How bad are we talking magic kingdom will be on 12/30 since they running the firework specials? How bad will the parks be this coming 3ish weeks? Will the annual passes of all but the highest tier help at all? Thanksgiving a few weeks ago wasn’t bad at all wait time wise, especially compared to before. Do we expect that to continue?
Last year the 30th wasn’t really any busier than any other “peak week” days. Once the sun goes down many people will be sucked up by the dance parties and 6:30pm showing of Fantasy in the Sky.

I usually don’t do any rides on the 30th/31st, but the 30th has been real quiet compared to pre-Covid these last few years. So, if the NYE fireworks show interests you, I’d go. If you have zero interest in the NYE or Christmas festivities, I’d go in January if possible.

Also, if it’s important to you, some people complain about the fact that pop music is played throughout the park instead of the thematic music. Quite random, but good to know if you love the thematic music.

thank you for your response that is very helpful! On the 30th they do the dance party stuff also, like they do on the 31st?
Interesting tibit about the pop music

Hi,

We did MK both on Dec 30th and 31st and Dec 30th was much more manageable. Still very busy but much better.

We will be there this year and will go to MK on the 30th. We suggest an early dinner and to stay together after that. To manage crowd, expect access to some sections of the park to be blocked more than an hour before fireworks especially around the hub. If you don't make it in time, don't panic, go to the front of the park using the bypass that will be opened and work you way back up Main Street from there. Fireworks further from the hub are still great!

Our tip would be to do Hollywood Studios on the 31st. We do attractions during the evening because it's not that busy and around 11pm go to the very fun dance party in front of the Chinese Theater. As a bonus, Disney does not publish this but there's always foreworks at midnight. Not the MK or Epcot kind but still pretty good!

Enjoy!

Yup! Dance parties in front of the castle (runs until about 10 minutes before fireworks usually, so it’s a good way to pass the time), in Tomorrowland, and Frontierland (my favorite).

PS: The dance party starts right back up after fireworks, so don’t fight the crowds! So if you do go, stick around for 15 minutes or so to let people clear!

Well if you believe the Park Pass Reservation System reflects reality, the MK is Sold out for date based tickets (Resort guests as well with date based tickets) from 12/23 through 1/3/2025.

The cynic in me says that none of this is organic and just an intentional way of forcing guests to purchase more expensive hoppers and/or force guests to other less popular parks.

Epcot is sold out 12/30 and 12/31. Studio is sold out on 12/27.

I want nuanced advice
Here's some "nuance": If you don't have a VIP tourguide already booked, you're going to experience large crowds at rides and dining, long waits to ride and eat (and maybe even use the rest rooms), and equally long lines and waits just to get out of the place at the end of the day.

When did you start believing the hype?
