I did watch it. I still have it saved on the TiVo. :) I thought it was really, really interesting. I really had no idea how common it is. And I thought it was great that Toni Braxton was there talking about her son w/ autism.

Yes, I really felt for her. I remember what I felt like when I first found out...you really go through a grieving process for a while, then you have to change your dreams for your child. I was particularly struck by the last couple that was on who were thinking of their older daughter's future when she is an adult. Something I'm not ready to face yet.

And.... Bunny, they were NOT denim, you were right! Good morning, sleeping well? My wife was up all night with heart burn again...

A-ha! I knew it... I took one look at those and said to myself "there's nothing denim about these!" But oh well..

Doing okay... sorry to hear about the heartburn. Does she sleep on an incline?

Jenny, I have a kid in our church that has never been tested for Autism, his mother is well, maybe in denial, he is in 9th grade, very bright in alot of areas, but in other social areas, he can not function. There are levels of Autism right? What is the mildest?

Asperger's is the highest-functioning form of autism, which could be the situation with that kid. Usually their I.Q. is out of sight, but social skills are their biggest struggle.
There is a whole spectrum of diagnosis...some put ADD and ADHD at the higher end of the spectrum. Our son's official diagnosis at the age of 3 was PDD-NOS, which is Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified. It's a big long tem docs use when they don't want to tell parent their kid is autistic. He is functioning at a 2-3 year old level, I believe, with splinter skills more typical of a kid his age. He recognizes colors, knows numbers 1-10, can recognize his name and some letters, can match pics, etc. But he cannot hold a conversation with anybody.

Actually, Rick the stat is 1 in 166 kids; I think 1 in 60 would be truly frightening.

I found it alarming how misdiagnosed it is. I think she said that she noticed that something wasn't right when he was a baby and the doctor said something like it being an inner ear infection or something. It wasn't until he was in Pre-school or Kindergarten that a teacher (an underpaid teacher) caught it.
I actually did a research project on autism back in college...but it was more focused on the "gifted" autistic children with the amazing abilities.

No, just next to an imbusule!

We watched a movie that I would NOT recommend for anyone that is pregnant.

Father of the Bride II, we were doing fine until they said, The girls were weighing in at 128 and 132 respectively. They were 8 months pregnant!!!!! My wife and I had never heard that line before.... our jaws dropped. My wife is not a big girl but she's no Nibbs either, she's 5'8". From there on out we hated that movie. They pretty much try to paint the perfect pregnancy.

It's also alarming how often it goes undiagnosed thanks to parents who turn a blind eye. My mom's school has potentially identified several children that may need help, whether ADD, OCD or otherwise, but many of the parents take a "Not MY child" attitude and deny the kid any help they could get because of their stubbornness. It's sad really. :(

I hated that movie. Waaaaaay too unrealistic for my tastes. Wow! They just *happened* to go into labor at the EXACT SAME TIME! What a coincidence! :dazzle:

Your right, still 1 in 166 is un nerving! I would bet his IQ is high. He has been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, I also would add LoDD, lack of discipline disorder which is his mothers fault!

Oh and another thing I saw for Jenny and Bunny, I saw this add on TBS for the Rings Trilogy, it was funny! They make it look like the two hobbits had a thing for each other. Have you seen that one?
