Interesting; thanks for the information. I always think with a space so big, that that little extra can be done. Plus, that area is considered a "Land" in itself for the whole EPCOT thing! Something...like The Land I guess. That Imagineering episode on the Travel Channel got me really interested; I hope we have a true success here. Of course Horizons will never be replaced in my heart, it's family. But I hope its spirit can still live on in this attraction!!

Amen. I loved Horizons, and I think the omage to it in this ride and the quailty will win out.

The archatecture (sp?) alread is enough to warrent the replacement of the Horizons building.

>>>Like Pheonix wasn't credited with it or that there is nothing to complain about.

Well, what is it.<<<

Well, let's see here...

The much hyped "incredible voyage to Mars and back" that everyone made such a big deal out of is not true, instead replaced by a premise that I think is little more than Test Track in Space.

All of the incredible in-cabin effects that were supposed to be so great are history, with the standard strobes and fog that we are all used too remaining.

The weightlessness and heavy g-forces will probably be toned down to a pathetic baby level so that the infamous yuppie soccer moms won't have to over why little 7-year old Timmy can't ride. Heck, with the wrath of the lawyers lately, I doubt that these effects will be noticeable at all.

The one part of the ride that I think will shape up to be a hit is the post-show area, but if the core attraction is a total bomb the post show area will not be entertaining many people*.

The ride has an unbelievable amount of hype built up around it, and I doubt that it will live up to these expectations. Heck, even if the ride somehow surprises everyone and delivers everything promised, I think many people will still say, "I wish Horizons was back."

* Before anyone says, "It's Disney's first major E-ticket at WDW in 4 years, it HAS to be a hit!", remember that DCA was Disney's first theme park in 46 years in California. Because it failed to deliver any kind of quality that people were accustomed to from Disney- Well, I don't even have to go on about DCA...

Well, that's always a part of it. I just miss the previous attractions. Just uneasy, due to the replacements of others. Food Rocks. Journey into Imagination with Figment. It's just so...scary - I'm not sure what to think. :(

And that's fine. You have your opinions. The only problem with me about the insider opinion is my attitued over anything comming from sources. Sure, I have mine, but it's my way of being over cautious. I know that effects were probably dropped, just like in all of Walt's classics.

And the rest is opinion.

I like to see what rolls out than work myself up about how crappy this ride will be over this proposed version. This is WDW dammit, if I can't enjoy it, they why go?

To all those who await Mission Space more power to you. From my point of view though all I have to say is this.

WHOOPIE!!! another ride I have to wait outside of with my young children while my wife and older kids ride!!!

I can understand the need for thirll rides to appeal to teens and adults with out kids but what we need here is balance. Lets face it EPCOT is a pretty boring place to bring kids.. There are maybe two or three attractions that appeal to them (I am talking about kids to young to go on the likes of Test Track etc.) and so a day there with kids turns out to be lots of walking while listening to kids complain.

If focusing on just one market segment you alienate the others. THIS IS DISNEY! IF THEY PUT THEIR MINDS TO IT THEY CAN MAKE THE PARKD APPEAL TO EVERY ONE!!! But instead they are just looking at where they can make money the fastest. As someone here has said before Walt Disney wanted FAMILY parks!!

Maybe they should change the name from Walt Disney World - The happiest place on earth

to

Little Mikey Eisner World - the place where all we care about is getting as much money out of you as fast as we can.

You can go there pay $50.00 per person to get in and after you pay you go through a door and are right back our in the parking lot hearing Eisner say " I hope you enjoyed your stay - we sure did!"

I've quoted it once, I'll quote it again...
"Today's destination... The 21st Century!!"
"Hey that's some destination!"

That is the best way to put it. We are in a new time, where Horizons would not have fit. What would Horizons have been like if it was around today. Going to the 21st century in the 21st century. We obviously aren't living underwater or in space, and to say we would be there now wouldn't work out. Changing it wouldn't have worked either because you are now talking the 22nd century and who knows what anything will be like then.

You have to figure that we needed that 21st century attraction at Epcot. So just like Horizons we reached that destination and we have to look to the future. Think of what Epcot would be if it was living in the past.

If you read my other posts and Pheonix's you would read that M:S has one of the best post show areas around. Add to that a game that is basicly the ride without any movement. Then add a Space themed kids playarea, and well, you have a family pavilion.

Just wait and see. Then we'll comment on these things again.

Well, I wouldn't think the family should be separated in the pavilion. Well, those riding it yes, but not in the post show. I mean, the whole idea is "togetherness" - so I don't know if a child playroom would be best...but more of a family playroom - ala original Image Works! :D

I kinda agree, but i dont wanna see everything turn into a thrill ride.I mean well if everything becomes a thrill ride wheres the family in that? And besides i dont care how good M:S is ill still miss Horizons, just like i miss WOM,JII.I miss the days when you could walk into EPCOT and everywhere you looked family rides and these rides werent short or cheap or have nothing to do with what their about.Almost every ride there was family but nowalmost every ride has gone to thrill.Oh well ill still have my memories.

I don't know why everyone is bashing Test Track all the time. Yes, it replaced WoM, but which one has a longer line. Test Track of course. Disney is trying to please their "guests" as a whole and overall more people probably prefer Test Track. And I think that more people will prefer Mission: SPACE as opposed to Horizons. (although I still miss that wonderful orange smell; does anyone know what they used to make that smell)

Test Track's hourly capacity is around 1/2 as much as WoM's, if even that much. When you figure in Fastpass it is extremely easy to have a 10 minute wait for WoM get converted into a 1 hour wait for TT.

I can't wait for M:S...I thought Horizons was a good ride but it was getting dated. I do agree that Epcot needs another family attraction or 2. I wish Disney and GM would do something with TT to make it more of a family pavilion. I don't want them to change TT, I want them to add to the pavilion. Building a new WOM would be cool, or they could even put a transportation themed family dark ride in the pavilion. I think the Imagineers could come up with a wonderful dark ride about the history of transportation. That and one other family attraction would balance out Epcot very nicely, whether that one other family attraction is in a new pavilion in WS, or an existing pavilion in FW. The only problem I can see with another attraction in the TT pavilion is that traffic is going to be very heavy in FW east after M:S opens. It might be even worse with a dark ride added to TT.

Cheers

ps...I've enjoyed this thread very much Grizz.:) I really do hope M:S lives up to the hype. I'll reserve judgement on it's family appeal until after I ride it and see the rest of the pavilion. :D

It's probably closer to 1/3. And WoM (almost)NEVER broke down.
