Mission Space...Too Intense?

Um...I threw up after riding M:S. That said, I thought it was very cool. The launch was especially terrific. I'm glad they built it.

I, however, will NEVER ride it again.

I'm still undecided on riding on our next WDW visit, and probably won't make up my mind until I see what the guests actually exiting the ride have to say (or what they emit).

If I decide to skip the ride, is there enough in the pavillion to make it interesting for a visit without riding?

Don't get me wrong I love the ride alot and it is one of my favorites but when I describe M:S to others I never mention the word intense. I actually tried to get dizzy on some of my multiple rides. I leaned forward, looked to the side, closed my eyes (which is a definate no-no for 1st timers), and I did this for the WHOLE ride. And I got nothing. I felt exactly the same as I did when I walked out the first time when I actually followed directions

I honestly think that if you go in without a full stomach, hold your head back, look forward, and keep your eyes open you should be fine.

I agree with you totally...when I rode Mission: Space in July, I didn't feel remotely sick afterwords. Mission: Space is a really cool experience, but very intense it is not. :)

The most annoying thing to me is when people who have a propensity to get motion sickenss decide to ride. If you know that you're gonna get sick, why do it?

Exactly why I didn't!:) (But I had lots of fun watching those who did...)

What a great way to look at it. (Being glad they built it despite the fact it made you sick.) Too bad you can't ride it again. :( I am looking forward to taking everybody on it next trip. :)

:hammer:

No.. it's not bad at all. If you've ridden a plane or a REALLY fast car, you'll be fine.

Give me a break. There's no way you could put a guy's head back together with pretzels.

Not without peanut butter or something sticky like that.

How are you on other simulators?

I love Star Tours and Back to the Future, even though they can leave me a little queasy. I don't do roller-coaster (because I'm a big baby) and spinners like Tea Cups is a recipe for disaster.

I have not done MS yet. I want to ride it, and I am even OK with getting sick afterword. But I don't want it to ruin the next few hours in the park or, even worse, leave me unable to eat the rest of the day.

Any suggestions?????????

To me, it all depend on the ride. Some coasters/motion rides I can handle fine. Others--especially spinning ones--can cause me to hurl. So while I was probably an idiot for riding M:S, I'm glad I had the experience.

Yeah, Star Tours messed with me a little too. I think I'm just getting worse with age.

This was the same thing that happend to all the new big rides. Everyone was scared, then people realized that it's fun. Frankly, the line has nothing to do with the popularity of the ride. A 20 min wait at M:S is equal to about 30-40 at Test Track.

Well, I was too chicken to try this myself, but friends of mine swear it works - take a couple of Dramamine (or other anti-motion-sickness medicine) an hour or two before setting foot on the ride.

(If you try it, let us know if it works!):)

Granted, EPCOT does not have to pull in more guests, but M:S will surely draw crowds regardless of bad experiences or intensity.

I doubt that Mission: SPACE will have as much impact as Spider-Man did on Orlando. Spidey drove in tons of crowds, as it IS the most technologicaly advanced ride on our planet. M:S will pull some crowds in, but not like Spidey.

BTW, I don't really get sick on M:S. I don't feel that it's that intense. Sure, on the ride the forces just push on you, but that's it. The only type of "sickness" I get is after riding, when my eyes hurt bad, but I think its just because of my glasses.

Not for everyone

Personally, I don't find Mission Space to be at all intense. To me, it's just fun.

But I like rollercoasters, simulators, teacups; pretty much any thrill ride.

After riding maybe 5 times, I'd just about decided that the few people complaining of dizziness and nausea were just overreacting Then I rode with an older friend who had just a little history of inner ear problems. I made sure she watched the warning videos and made her own decision, and she decided to ride anyway. She kept her head back, eyes forward through the ride, and afterwords was nauseous for about an hour and a half.

Basically, it ruined her day at Epcot and I felt guilty for the rest of her vacation for not warning her more strongly.

So here I warn anyone else... if you have even the slightest history of inner ear problem, or any other condition that the warnings mention, skip this attraction. Skip the teacups and Star Tours as well.

Most other riders will be fine; probably will say "what was the fuss about?" after enjoying the ride. It is a great experience for most; good storyline and exciting visuals. Kind of thing you'd wish absolutely everyone could enjoy.

I agree that it is an intense experience, but I think it's one of the best things Imagineering has created in the last ten years. It's a great attraction with awesome guest interaction and a pretty decent story. Plus it has the big wheel from Mission to Mars in the que. Not a great movie, but pretty impressive to look at the prop. Obviously Disney put a great amount of time into creating the attraction and I think it's just right!:sohappy:

There you go. Just 'cause I can't ride it doesn't mean it' s not a great ride! That's why I love Disney - something for everyone!

thoughts on why some get ill on MS

It seems that those who haven't got sick think somehow it is the fault of the rider who does. My husband and I both rode MS and both had different experiences. We both also loved it. He felt fine and didn't get sick at all I on the other had kept praying we would land or heck even crash and I was so grateful we didnt make a return flight. I had tears in my eyes and a runny nose not to mention severe upset stomache. I had read on another board about looking straight ahead and keeping my head back. After take off there was no way I was going to move even to hit my button. I have not been sick on a ride since I was 4 and was stunned to find myself so ill. No, I didn't eat before hand either. So why do I think I got ill and my Husband who is 50 did not and I who am 37 and in great health did even following all the protocol?
My guess is I have a deviated septum. Just wondering if anyone else who became ill may have the same problem? All I know is I will never ride it again but thought it was an amazing ride.
