With all of this talk about why Horizons was better and how many people don't like M:S due to lack of theming and the whatnot, I figure it'd be cool to see what people think could help improve the ride via a major refurbishment. (Not an overhaul mind you, just a 1-2 month refurbishment). Here's what I believe needs to be done. I'll break the thing down for each section of the attraction.
Planetary Plaza aka Entrance
-Standard repairs and painting
Queue
-Standard repairs and painting
Ready Rooms
-Standard repairs and painting
Pre-Flight
-Standard repairs and painting
-New video that informs guests that they will be training for a mission to mars and mentions simulation multiple times to be more cohesive
Flight Bays
-Standard repairs and painting
In Capsule Show Elements
-Five new versions will be made and one will be selected for the entire bay at random. The motions for each version will be similar, but will have variations in when each position presses their buttons and in when certain movements occur. These versions are selected for an ENTIRE BAY, not individual capsules
Re-Entry Hallway
-Standard repairs and painting
-Replace all but the last signs to the Advance Training Lab with slogans or quote from previous astronaut trainees from the ISTC
The exterior line paint and floor tiles will match each bay's individual color
Advanced Training Lab
-Replace all existing attractions
-Replacing Mission: SPACE Race will be a mock Space Station area where guests can preform tasks in order to keep the space station up and running as well as learn about what really goes on inside the International Space Station and what it's purpose is
Replacing the Space Base Playground will be a mission control simulation where guests can learn more about what mission control does to keep space missions successful.
Replacing the current video game area would be an interactive activity area where younger guests could learn more about astronauts and have plenty of fun activities to do while the older guests are on the ride.
Postcards from Space can remain the same
There ya go. A major refurbishment that makes the theme more cohesive, adds new elements to improve the ride drastically and a radical rein-visioning for the post show with the original spirit of Epcot in mind. How does that sound?
