Mission Space question????

I was also worried about this as I had heard this ride was like a big vomit festival at times. So, I just went on it first thing before eating. But I don't think it would have mattered as I didn't experience any of the motion sickness that some have told about. But if you want to play it 100% safe, maybe hold off from eating and make that your first ride, and then chow down.

You should be fine as long as you dont look around keep your head still and look straight ahead the whole time. You shouldnt experince any motion sickness

Actually MS did wonders as far as me sticking to my diet. After riding the ride, and doing this :hurl: in the men's room, it was around 2:00 p.m before I even thought about eating. And I rode it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Never thought the smell of turkey legs would make me sick, but they did.

"I lost 100 pounds on the Mission Space diet. A ride a day kept the cravings away."

I can honestly say this. I rode on Mission: Space as soon as I entered the park during my trip back in August of 2003 after eating breakfast and I had no problems. Other people around me did need to seek out garbage cans. So its basically up to you, on 1. How you feel, 2. Do you get sick easily?, 3. Did you read the sign(s) on the entrance to the ride carefully enough. They only tell you about 7 or 8 times that people with Motion Sickness should not go on this ride. Its the only time that I have ever seen that many warnings on a DISNEY ride.

Here's an unscientific study that some friends and I decided to do a few weeks ago.

We ate a big lunch( No alcohol) and used fast pass to get on 10 minutes later. Out of the 8 of us, no one was sick to their stomach. Some were dizzy.

We waited 3 hours, ate a ton of junk food, and added some alcohol (beer and margarta's from Mexico) and hit the ride about 20 minutes later. 2 of the 8 threw up after the ride. Everyone else was just full!

Our last ride was the best! We were drunk, little food in system, and got on. 5 of the 8 (not me) threw up on the ride! I think once the first person lost their lunch, the smell caused everyone else to do so, not the ride!

Hope this helps!

I'm sure the cleanup crew would appreciate it if you left future testing to the imagineer staff :lol:

Yes!...I would LOVE to see some drunk imagineers testing-out some of the rides!

Wimp! :animwink: JK

Seriously - if you are worried about this, give it a couple of hours after eating. On the other end of the scale don't go on it hungry or dehydrated. As others have already said, follow the rules and you should be fine.

I don't want anyone in my family to get :hurl:

I have to say the whole Mission:Space "you're gonna get sick" thing is blown completely out of proportion. We rode it quite a few times and not once felt queasy or the least bit sick. In fact, right after we rode it we walked over to The Land to get something to eat and had absolutely no ill effects whatsoever. Mission: Space can be a bit of a herky jerky ride, but not nearly to the point of actually making a person sick. And I'm saying this as someone who was moving his head around from side to side, motioning forward to look at the other riders....basically doing the things that others said they shouldn't if they didn't want to get sick.

I have to agree with all the people who have posted that it really does depend on you. I have gone on Mission:Space after eating, first thing in the morning after breakfast, I once went on it with a hangover ( which the ride cured thank you very much!!!) I have never experienced any kind of ill effects at all. My Aunt was a bit disoriented the one time she rode it, my friend Karen was fine the two times she rode it ( Not in a row) but our other friend Gloria came off white,shaky, prespiring, and violently sick, not throwing up but darn close!!! I have seen people who have gotten drastically sick with doing everything right, so there it is. I wouldnt advise eating a huge meal and then heading on over for the first time, but as long as you are reasonable about it, I dont forsee any problems. Also keep in mind that the first aid office is over past Test Track in the Odyssey Restaurant building ( towards Mexico!) Hope this helps! Belle

Well, I think the main concensus that has been reached is that the ride affects everyone very differently.

There are six posts in front of yours that say otherwise. :lol:

I'm not taking any chances.
There are too many other non-vomit rides to enjoy at Disney World. I, for one, am avoiding Mission Space like the puke...oops..I mean like the Plague.:zipit:

This 'sick' talk is making me sick. I don't know anyone who got sick. However, if you really need a guide, follow these simple rules;
1-If you ate a hotdog and fries wait 3 hours:
2-If you had a pretzel and a coke wait 2 hours;
3-If you had coffee and a muffin wait 2 hours;
4-If you ate anything in Mexico-3 1/2 hrs;
5-Moderate alcohol and full dinner-2 1/2 hrs;
6-Excessive alcohol with any of the above-why wait?
7-heavy Hors d'ouvres-wait 1 1/2 hours
8-ice cream-1 hour
9-Bologna sanwich from home with warm mayo-ride now;
10-Any combination of foods and alcohol listed above-divide the fat calories by 9, add 12 then multiply by 21. This will give you the total number of minutes you need to wait before even thinking about a FASTPASS.:hurl:

Heh, am I the only one who was seriously tempted to turn my head, after being explicitly instructed to look straight ahead during the entire ride? Fortunately, I managed to obey the instructions and avoid motion sickness ... still, curiousity taunted me throughout the ride.

Speaking of motion sickness, here is an interesting (and highly masochistic) suggestion -- try lying down on your side while you're in a spinning teacup. Remain on your side for a few seconds, and sit up once again while the teacup is spinning. You may experience an unusual and very unpleasant sensation. :P
