Mission Space Pod?

Maybe someone has mentioned this already, but as many of you may know, http://www.therideworks.com/ is a website from Environmental Tectonics Cor., the company that many speculate is the producer of the ride system for Mission Space. I have just gone to http://www.therideworks.com/ and what I found has surprised me. First of all, they have updated their site from an html to a flash. Now, the whole site design looks like something akin to a control center in a spaceship (just my opinion:animwink: ) In addition, Entertainment Technology Corporation (the name of the subsidary of the Env. Tec. Cor which is dedicated to attraction tech. and may actually be the "builder" of MS) sports a new logo. Anyway, once you log on to http://www.therideworks.com/ , choose FLASH if you can, and then once the little flash movie plays with the ETC logo, click on any of the three colored balls (they lead to the same screen). Now, you will see the "control center" site design. Anyway, click on "Gallery" (its the 4th button from the left) and click on the picture in the TOP, RIGHT-HAND CORNER of the bunch of 6. THat pic shows a "pod" with little joysticks that remarkably resembles something about the "interactivity" of the ride of MS. (THe pic is called "X-Vector". And why am I posting this? Because prior versions of the ETC website had those places for pictures blank - this is a new picture. In fact, much of the FLASH website is new, with lots of NEW information than on the previous html site (which you can still find in its NOT-updated glory by clicking HTML on the opening screen to the website.) Check around, I've found lots of interting new tidbits of information! (And I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes).

Personally, I think they're gonna put a bunch of "X-Vectors" on one "Big Mac". But, that's just my opinion;)

This picture in the top middle is cyber space mountain from disney quest.

The bottom middle and bottom right (big mac) is what everyone keeps guessing is the ride system for mission space. The base of the ride looks like it matches the aireal photo someone posted with 4 circular foundations at the building site in place before the roof went on.

Kinda neat to see the cars "in-motion" to see how many ways the cars can pivot.

The interior might have the control system shown in the top right but somene previously posted seeing the cars being outfited with seats for 4 people... so same but different that then picture maybe?

So can't wait till I go in June!

I think the top-right picture DOES have seating for 4, you just can't see it because of the door. (Hey, that's a rhyme!) I think there will be two seats on one side (what you see in the pic) and two seats on the opposite side, facing the prior two.

My only question is how do you get a "zero g" feel from a centrifuge?

If it goes clockwise to get 3G's does it go negitive if your turn it counter clockwise?

Ive got the same question. I think that i have been to this website before but i dont know. if MS is like this i can say its gonna be sweet, but ow are tey gonna load all these. have different doors for each compartment??

The interior of the pod doesnt really look much like that photo. The Mission Space pods are considerably more detailed than that, much larger, and with 4 seats in a row. You can easily stand up in a Mission Space pod, and from inside, it doesnt look like a pod.

I would expect that Disney would NOT let us see the mechanics of the ride when loading the pods. I'd think the cars would "line up" to a room door of some kind for us to climb directly into or something.

Showing us anything more than that would ruin the "illusion" and that's just not WDI's style.

The "simulated" weightlessness also comes from the visual aspect or visual "cues" they will feed us. You are (almost) always going to feel gravity in some direction on your body. If they "fool" us into not being able to dertermine which way is "up" or which direction gravity is pulling on us....that will really go a long way into giving us a good strong sense of extended wheightlessness.

I'll bet the effect is 50% mechanical and 50% psychological

Dunno, but this should be pretty damn cool.

I think that we'll see a walkway a la those things that connect the airport building to your airplane. Then they would play the music to 'The Right Stuff' and eveyone whould have to walk extremly showly and in a dramatic fasion. :animwink:

Speaking of Music; The orchestral portion of Horrizons "space" would be PERFECT for ambient music throughout the pavillion.

How much will anyone bet that WDI will pay respect to horrizons by placing something from the old ride on display somewhere?

They did it in TT: Old car from WOM in the line cue.
They did it in Imagination: All that equipment in the caged "storage" on the line cue was from the original ride.

Having them keep Horrizons' musice would really be special.

Expect LOTS of stuff from Horizons in this ride. From what I hear, look for the Space Station in Horizons and possibly a ride car.

It would be a nice homage to keep Horizons' music there. But maybe with a reorchestration, like Debney, GGG, and Phantom Manor. You know, add in a second (or third) theme, add some instruments, give it a different tempo. But I have a feeling that the music in this attraction is going to be PUMPING and JAMMIN' like RnRC and Space Mountain - De la terre a la lune at DLP. On board speakers, perhaps? A real nice cool orchestral synchronization with ride action is probably what they'll do. For the queue, softer, gentler music (where Horizons' Space would most definately fit in.) And how about adding some props into the queue from Horizons. If the queue is themed to a museum of Space, what better than to add in some props from Horiozns about living in Space?! (Back around the turn of the last millennium, people were convinced they would be living in Space (insert old prop from Horizons here about Space). As time grew, our scientists pushed for that reality. Until we finally have achieved this Space center (insert fictional Space Station that MS is based on going to) with all of the modern conviences.) etc...

I agree, though I bet it's even a higher portion psycological. Ever ride Spiderman at IOA? There's a point where you are "falling", with buildings on either side. Even though you're facing forward, the effect is VERY convincing, despite being mostly psychological. And this is when you KNOW you're on a track and can't really be falling. If Disney can mask "reality" even more, I think it'll be a pretty fantastic effect.

IMAX screens and even the movie screens at UoE make you think you're falling. Every so often I've gotta close my eyes on those. It's all about size. The bigger the visual is, the more inclined you are to think the visual's actually happening!

Speaking of the queue... any word on exactly what we will see when we enter that red planet? All pictures show are those 4 signs with arrows pointing to the different lines but I am wondering what the queue itself will be like. I noticed the standby line goes in a different direction entirely from Fastpass and Single, so could that mean that there are different areas entirely to queue through instead of side by side lines like on Test Track? AHHHH the suspense is KILLING ME!

I like how all the rumors and speculation continue to run rampant even though Steve (a guy in the "know"), continues to more or less tell us exactly what it's going to be ;)
