Mission:Space Closed Today for CM Previews (pictures)

Mission:Space was not open today during it's "usual" 4 pm opening time that we have become used to so that CM's could preview the attraction. Here is a picture taken by one of my TimeScouters. It appears to be some people messing around with a video camera.

Surprisingly, one of my TimeScouters, that's what I affectionately call my team of photographers and journalists, reported that the CM running the intercom on the EPCOT parking lot tram said something along the lines of "if you came here today to ride mission space, it is awesome." I assume that management would *not* have approved of her actions; mentioning mission space and the possibility of riding, that is.

As has already been posted on this site several times, Mission: SPACE was never planned to be open July 14-16 due to Cast Member previews. It will open this afternoon, July 17th, to guests.

There has been so much chatter about M:S that I might have missed it but will the "previews" continue until August 15 or will it completely shut down sometime before the soft opening?

Actually, as reported by Mission:Space CM's on Wednesday afternoon (the actual CMs and not the pink shirt brigade), they were planning on opening the attraction to the public "for at least a couple of hours" that day. But at the last minute management decided against it, probably so that the event could run later than had originally been expected.

Regardless, it is rumored to be opening earlier today, at about 1 pm--so it may already be open (I hope so...Patrick is trying to ride right now haha) and the plan is for it to stay open every day from this point forward. 99% of the changes to this attraction have already taken place (just some fine tuning with lighting and such is ongoing), with the remaining work occuring after park closing and in the morning--thus, it shall be open to Epcot Guests through August 15th, daily (of course excepting AP Previews, where only APs will be able to ride).

Aug 1-3 it will only be open to Annual Pass holders

What is the big deal with Horizons?

I hate that ride so much since it closed the year before I my first trip I was able to remember anything. (1995)

And yet that ride stood there closed until I returned in 2000 and I got to watch the ride being torn down.

Now if the ride were actually open whenever I came, I think I would have memories.

I would like to shoot the ghosts of Horizons because they denied my ride of the ride.

Hmmm...Horizons. A lot of people remember it fondly; I was not really a fan. Unlike the other Future World pavillions, which center in on the future of deep sea exploration, farming, imaginativeness, energy use, medical science, communication, transportation, and deep space travel, Horizons was more...the future of society, perhaps the future of living--not nearly as well defined of a theme as the other pavillions, as I've always considered ALL of Future World to show the future of living, so I found this pavillion largely repetitive, as it showed life under water and farming in the desert--you could just go to Future World West to see that, and it's REAL there. I think people liked Horizons more for nostalgia, and it was time for a change--Mission: SPACE will clearly be a better crowd pleaser, so kudos to Epcot!

Sorry to thread drift, didn't mean that when I mentioned the ghosts...

But when you mention that list that the rest of EPCOT had, you can notice everything you listed several places in Horizons...the attraction was basically a "synthesis" of all of EPCOT was, as far as dreaming, doing, and a tour to the 'modern future' by the family. :)

I think you may need a new camera some shades are in colors while others are not.

there are photo filters available for cameras that will isolate a certain range of colours, or block a range out. That, and there's a lovely program called Photoshop which allows manipulation of images like that.

now shush

A new camera? Ha ha. Am I the only person that likes the way those pictures look? I guess it's just a little artistic license at work. Yes, they were slightly manipulated. If you take a closer look you might even find a little hidded surprise. I try to add a little something to most of my pictures because we've all seen the same ol' pictures from WDW and I don't want to be redundant.

My TimeScouts like to get creative too every now and then.
