"How did you like Mission Space?!" (I asked, enthusiastically).
"It was okay. Hey, did you feel weightlessness" (one asked to the other).
"(smiling) No."
Same thing overhere...
My grandchildren play with playstations all the time, It takes a whole lot more to wow them.
The sophistication of the audience, and their expectations, increases every year.

I personally think MS is a sucess, and the thing is with the short lines, is that since it has 4 centrifuges, you can fit 160 people on all 4 centrifuges at the same time. I too make it a habit of going there every time I go to Epcot, just depends on how the day goes. The only time I faced a big wait was 25 minutes on Single Rider, 55 minutes on Standby, and this was around late September....

Not to get off topic or anything, but since Gen. Grizz said something about kids going on field trips, we were supposed to go MK in March for a scientfic view of roller coasters(Space Mountain, BTMRR), and my science teacher and everyone else went for IOA(Islands of Adventure) instead, so were going there.....:(

BUMMER!! :(

ANYWAY...have you all seen that Magical Gatherings commercial about the kids telling adults, "It was interesting. Not scary" and then the parents scream their heads off?

FALSE ADVERTISING. The ride is not scary. . . no scary elements. I don't know why anyone would scream.

Yeah, I saw that and was like  (oops, I used LIKE). It's more fascinating to me than anything else, but my kids think it's the greatest ride on the planet.

It’s no more false advertising than the ads depicting people excited to go to Universal Studios.

All joking aside, I can see how someone may be disappointed if they were expecting to have the crap scared out of them (as the ads may lead one to believe); I, however, rode for the experience and received it in spades.

The reason it's fast for boarding, is because look there is 4 Preshow rooms, with like 8 rows of 4 people. That's pretty fast boarding. I would M:S is a huge hit.

For me, however, it's not some great thing to look forward to. Kinda like a Disney time-filler, like JIYI, you know? I'm not saying it's a horrible ride, it has a lot of great effects, but a lot of it is out of tradition and holds no real emotion to me. Kinda cold...and quick...and cramped feel.

That depends on anyone's feelings... for me, it is THE ride I would fly all over the Atlantic just to do it... and I went to all Universal Parks in the USA, Spain, went to Disneyland Resort, WDW, live next to DLRP... It is completely different than a dark ride, but I don't remember getting out of Splash Mountain and telling myself "oh it was sooooo unbelievably cool" or from RRC "ohhhh it was the most intense and thirlling experience of my life, soo cool".

However when getting out of M:S, I really thought: it is the most unique ride experience , with the most strange sensations. I just want to ride it again. Never felt ill once too.

Same here... it isn't my FAVORITE ride. But it is close.

For my wife, however, MS is what she calls "The ultimate and most perfect ride created so far anywhere"

To her, it is the greatest experience to ride it... and she rides it over, and over, and over ...

Ah, so you did see that one then. (My AIM's been screwed up and I didn't get any response from you last night)

Maybe all those adults had claustrophobia or something...(I'm only guessing on how cramped it is)

Something to think about everyone...

When was the last time TT broke down?

An hour-and-a-half ago? Causing the lines/queue to back up an add'l 45 min?

Now when was the last time M:S broke down? (aside for one of the fuge's needing a "protien-clean"?)

I don't know what most of you people are talking about. I thought Mission Space lived up to all the hype. I don't know what most of you want. How could you not think that that ride was great? I mean what more do you really want, believe it or not, most of Disney's rides, including Mission Space are some of the best and most original rides in the world. I don't know what more most of you want. I mean no offense of what I said at all though, I respect everybody's opinions entirely.

I think M:S is a really cool experience. Plus, it definitely adds thrills to EPCOT (which the average person craves currently).

However, the reason most people have problems with it is, frankly, it is a short ride. Thus, once you've done it a couple of times, the novelty wears off. Secondly, M:S can't compare with Horizons, the attraction it replaced. Horizons was so unique in the way that it represented the future. Plus, it was a long experience shrouded in detail. Unfortnately, M:S doesen't have this type of appeal.

Do I think that M:S is a fantastic piece of technology? -- YES! Is it fun? -- YES! Is it as imaginative and inspiring as Horizons-- NO!

As for it being scary, my Mom screamed her head off the entire time. I think it all depends on what type of sensations you can take. Everyone has different thrill levels. Personally, though M:S, was not scary at all...just really cool to ride.

it's not that WE dont think it's a great ride.. we're just thinking of it in the sense that the average park-goer might: the one who has seen the advertisements for it... and then might be a little dissapointed by it -because even though it was a great experience, it wasn't the "incredible-hulk coaster" type thrill ride they expected.

IMO M:S is more of a psycological thrill ride than anything else.

I think so far it is a success for Disney, but you can't measure a ride on ony a few months operation. It has to maintain an audience over the years to be a real success.

I enjoy Mission Space and like the idea of Disney trying something new and thinking outside of it's box and giving people a unique experience. But it's far from being my favorite or MUST ride every time I'm at the park.

Well, what do you say about RRC then? Short and the novelty wears off too. Same for Test Track, or Star Tours. But the thrills remain, can't do anything to it, the pressure of the launch is still there (even if you're used to it now)

Then, Living with the land is a long ride, but I'd take a short M:S ride anyday...

I won't say anything about Horizons, I never rode it but yes, I would have loved to still have it next to M:S. I think they should add and not replace rides.
As for overhyping... I think the most overhyped ride is Test Track... just look at all the vacation planning videos, the video showing Test Track is edited like a video clip, showing almost stock car racing ride...and you think: is it like this the WHOLE ride?? I think THAT disappoints people. As for the ad for M:S, I think it sums up well the real ride: people smiling, people pushing buttons, people shouting (and they indeed shout during launch, re-entry etc), sentences like "the force authentique, the sensation real, the experience unbelievable", that really what you experience on the ride (well, in my case), because it is such a realistic experience.

I think they did a pretty good job.

I'm not saying the imagineers did a bad job. The ride is quite awesome and unique.

Comparing a motion simulator to a roller coaster is like comparing apples and oranges. They are too different. In my opinion, rides where you actually "move" will always have more appeal then simulators.

The novelty of Star Tours HAS worn off. That's why you can walk on it at almost anytime.

As for test track, it is very popular for several reasons.

First, it has a small compacity so that it always seems very crowded.
Secondly, it is a "family" thrill ride that people of all ages can ride. The same thing can not be said for RRC and M:S.

I was talking about the publicity guys, not the Imagineers :) Of course those made a great job too! :animwink:

You're right about the "moving" thing. But M:S really gives me this sense of "moving", due to the G-forces. And that what makes it different from other simulators where you're pretty much passive.

Star Tours is 15 years old. MS is 4/5 months old. So if the novelty wears off now, I cannont imagine what you'll think of the ride in a few years

I thkink the key to keeping M:S fresh and exciting is the ability to change the destinations and forces exerted on your body.

I wouldn't be surprised to see in a few years (like 4-5 or hopefully sooner) different planets to visit and tasks to complete.

I do wish the ride itself was a longer experience. Granted, I don't want to sit in the capsule with all that spinning for any longer than they do now. But if they made the ride as an actual trip TO Mars, then you exit the ride and you are ON Mars, that would have really made the rider feel longer as if you arrived at a destination.

Maybe they will do that in the future, who knows :D
