Has anyone had a chance to have a look behind Mission Space recently?
I have a report that the attraction has had an increase in scope, and requires additional space. The report indicates that this is now being done at the rear of the building, by extending outwards.

I havnt been able to confirm this rumor with anyone else....yet. :)

Very interesting. Initially, I thought the show building looked a little small for an attraction of the reported magnitude. I tried to get a good look at it from Test Track last month and it seemed to have "grown." I just figured I hadn't seen it from that angle very well before. Very interesting indeed.

In terms of the size of the building, we dont really know how big those centrigues are. As the ride will take place in a fixed location, the building certainly doesnt need to be the size of say CTX or GMR. So the determining factor is going to be the size of the centrigues x3, plus the area for post and pre shows. :)

Steve I was at Epcot last night. Though it was dark by the time I got over to Mission:Space, and CM's where closing off that area. I did snag some shots BUT to dark they didnt come out. I can confirm something is going on I saw two very large cement towers on the site both near the front of the ride. They where not there before. I am hoping to be going back next weekend to show the lounge to some friends. If I go will snag shots. Yesterdays visit was a last minute thing. I have some interesting shots though of some stuff which I will be posting in a trip report shortly

These are some of my night shots. I had to do some small photoshop work on them. I will try, and work on them some more. Sorry for the grainess look but I had to raise the brightness/contrast. The big white tower in the middle is one of the cement towers

I noticed an odd cement tower thing in front of Mission Space last week too.....it looked like a prop from Catastrophe Canyon or the Indy stunt show, or something......

Good News? Maybe....

An expansion to the back of the building makes perfect sense if you think about how just a few weeks ago that countdown clock was removed with the popular reason being they need a little more time. Also, if I remember my Jim Hill from Mouse Planet correctly, the original concept for Mission: Space was MUCH more ambitious than the one approved. The original concept took place many years in the future and it involved traveling to another planet. Jim Hill spoke of how riders would disembark and feel like they were on another planet, complete with star fields being projected on a big dome ceiling. This full blown ride was reported as costing almost 275 million dollars! Eisner said no and they went with a slightly different version involving a training center to save on the costs for the "mock planet" at the end of the ride. Perhaps the big guy changed his mind and decided to blow us all away!! Not bloody likely but it is fun to dream!

I am trying to make a trip this upcoming weekend over there to get us some good shots. Alas I spoke to a good friend about the two concrete towers. I was told those save allot of money since they can bring in the dry mix, and acutally mix it there for what amount and color they might need it for.

The "going back to orgional plans" model dosn't sound right...
That's something E$iner wouldn't do...
It would be almost impossible and would add up to 6 more months onto construction. What I can see happening is a larger safety center or matainance station added onto the back, just like Test Track added that building to the back.
