Missing Mermaid in SpectroMagic

My family and I were on a short vacation last week (Jan. 27 thru Feb. 1). And no doubt about it, we had a great time! But Monday (Jan. 31), when we went to go see SpectroMagic, one of our absolute FAVORITE WDW memories, The Little Mermaid was missing! :veryconfu Now, the Mermaid float is what we always seem to look forward to the most! Every year, before I was even born, my cousin, who is now almost an adult, was always talked to by Ursula and the whole night we were wondering if Ursula would comment on her again. But much to our suprise, she was gone as well! The fish came by, then usually comes Sebastean and his float singing "Under The Sea", then Ursula, then Ariel and Flounder, and then King Trition's float, but it skipped immediately to "Fantasia"! I mean, come on, if there's no Ariel, why include the fish! It turned out to kind of be a joke because we were in Walt Disney World having a wonderful time and we were complaining about 4 little floats but we still couldn't help but wonder where they were. The whole night, I tried blurting out "Where's Ariel?!" while castmembers were around, but unfortunately, no one heard. So even though that was a dissapointment, I'm now more curious than bummed. Does anyone have an idea as to why the Mermaid floats weren't there? Thanks in advance! :animwink:

You know, you'd be surprised but those Mermaids can catch a cold with the Warm waters and the cool nighttime Florida air.... Gotta keep our Mermaid healthy.

Ahem, im trying to maintain some character integrity.

In answer to your question, if a particular character doesnt make it to their float on time or is otherwise just not there, the float goes anyways.

HA HA I appreciate the sarcasm.

not sarcasm! i've seen it happen, it's not pretty. Poor thing was put into the moat at Aladdin once to warm up. Camel spit stays at a whopping 98 degrees farenheit.

character integrity rocks....

anyway, if they can't staff a certain performer in the parade, or if the weather doesn't permit it, they will just go out without a float or performer.

Obviously due to Ariel's position as a lightning rod within that float, if the weather goes tipsy, her float stays in. No sense having a fish fry in the magic kingdom with Ariel

Maybe Ariel couldn't make it and since her tail is part of the float they couldn't send the four floats (which I think are linked) out. I doubt kids would take seeing only Ariel's lower half very well. :) ("Guess who gon be on de plate")

There is also a chance that the float itself might have had some problems. So to keep everything show ready the float won't come out.

With the Hub rehab there are also challenges with the multi-unit floats. Remember that floats need drivers too, so there may have been issues there too.

I noticed that too when I was there (28th-2nd). Believe we went to the MK on the 30th. I was very upset because, due to all the young'ns in my family, we hadn't stayed late enough to see the parade in years. I was really looking forward to seeing Ursula, but nope...

Wonder what happened...

When I watched Spectro on NYE, the Chernobog (sp) float was missing, even though it was there the day before. I also like the little mermaid float, but I love, love, love the chernobog float! I was a little sad, but oh well... at least I was at wdw!

We watched the parade twice while down last week and saw Chernabog one of the two then as well.
