Miss you ..Iago and Zazu

I'm usually a big fan of retro or the original. But the new "original" Enchanted Tiki Room is boring and flat. I never thought I'd miss the loud cacophony of Iago and Zazu - but I do - and so did the rest of my family.

We just bought a park attraction music cd where Iago interjected into the tiki room, we didn't even know Iago was in the tiki room show, (probably 20 years since we last saw the show) and we thought, "maybe we should go see it now". How dissappointed my husband will be when we get there to see Iago and find he is gone, ha ha. Motivation for visiting other staples more often.

I must admit it will always surprise me to find people who love the Hat, or Tiki under new management, or Donald Duck cartoons in WS. But they do.
I suppose each generation grows up to love the WDW as it is when they visit it during their formative years, or during their first visits. Well, how could it be otherwise!

If the two cartoon birds are what you loved, then I'm sad they are no longer there for you!

I grew to tolerate it. I was actually impressed with the Goddess of Disaster AA. Kind of wish they could have figured out a way to integrate her into the current show.

While I do not care for this attraction in any form, the "New Management" version was grating. I do not miss it in any way, and I will soon subject myself to hypnotherapy in order to erase the memory of that version from my mind.

It was way too loud for me. That's the only version I've seen, but I'll check out the new old mgmt. version next week.

Oh, boy do I EVER disagree. The height, depth and mass of my disagreement, in fact, cannot be measured in layman's terms, but can be coined in the vernacular. So let me just say, "WHAAAAAAA???????"

I loathed UNM. I had never seen the original Tiki Room in person, so really had nothing to compare UNM with. So my loathing for UNM was based on its merits, or lack of same, not on what I believed it should have been. Well, scratch that, I did believe that it should be entertaining, and that the Iago AA should at least look like Iago, or at least a parrot, or at least a bird. UNM failed in all these respects. The Goddess of Disaster, while a clever AA, did not much impress me, because frankly a human in a costume (alternative description: MAN IN SUIT!) could have filled in just as well. So what's the point of an AA in such circumstances?

When the original Tiki Room was restored, I was eager to experience it. And I did, last December, and I'm happy to say that it was a good experience. It was classic Disney - amusing, magic and refreshing. I sat there and basked and basked. True, some of the AAs needed tweaking (the flowers' lip-synch was off, a shocking error that should have been caught by the Imagineers and is surely easy to fix), but the rest of the show was marvelous. So, kudos to TDO for bringing back a classic, even if they didn't do it flawlessly. I can't wait to visit the Tiki Room again. In fact, the Tiki theme should be expanded in that area of the park, IMO. But that's gist for another thread.

I agree. I really liked UNM and I find the new version pedestrian. I liked the story line and inclusion of familiar characters. I think the idea of Iago and Zazu owning a bar together is hilarious. I am also deeply saddened that we lost the voice talents of two masterful entertainers who are no longer with us--Phil Hartman and Jerry Orbach.

Against the popular vote I love Iago and Zazu!! I will miss the new management terribly! This is the reason I least look forward going to the MK this year!!

The existence of this thread would suggest the Tiki Room has its shortcomings no matter which version is used.

I think Rodney Dangerfield once said of the Tiki Room, "I'll bet you were something, back before electricity." :)

These two points I agree with, but I so love the original Tiki Room. I couldn't wait for it to come back.

While I do not miss UNM, the attraction was changed to it for a reason. Changing back to an abbreviated version of the original was a band aid at best. It will be playing to 1/4 full theaters again before too long.
