Miscellaneous Tokyo Thoughts

2 Weeks ago i arrived at 9:30 am at Disneyland and went home at 6:40 p.m and the crowds were insane considering its a weekday.

Honestly TDR has been losing its spark since pandemic, even with new offerings it feels always like sad and disappointing, Like others are mentioning, You really have to stare at your phone to reserve experiences.

I mean yes its convenience into it but you as a guests needs to feel happy or enjoying your day at a Disney park.
Instead you are pushed to buy Up charged passes to buy time at the same time it rans so fast.

Disney mobile order is the most disappointing experience, While yes you can order online but theres this inconvenience that you still need to find proper seat in restaurants.

Standby pass for limited merch still bad, Chinese re-sellers are insane, Imagine they hire people to bulk buy merchandise and after a few days of release its sold out.

others use X to hire people to queue early morning.

Even though there are strict rules they always find a loop hole to make things impossible to buy.

The re-selling/merchandise issue is absolutely absurd and I cannot believe they haven't found a good solution yet or don't just manufacture more of the merchandise to begin with.

I appreciate they have started scanning your ticket for certain purchases but they need to crack down harder. Why isn't it one item sku per person per ticket? Even that would be enough to help start cracking down on re-sellers.

OLC doesnt want to announce it until last minute,
But audition schedules are online.

Categorized as New Live entertainment or offering.

Mirabel, Dr facilier and Rapunzel are on the casting list

The Dr Facilier audition notice is for a meet and greet character.

Rapunzel and Mirabel are for a show however.

They’re looking for African Jazz dancers too.

Tokyo Disney Resort has officially released its refurbishment date for the yearlong Indiana Jones Adventure on August 18,2025-

IJA was intended to go a year long refurbishment this march 5, and was erased from the page after was announced last august.

This refurbishment just like the other attractions such as sinbad, Pirates and Buzz lightyear Astro Blaster had a lengthy refurbishment due to its structure safety.

I wouldn’t take too much expectation out of this refurbishment due to its not being announced like a re-imagined attraction, and more likely a structure safety procedure. Japan is very strict on regulations with buildings that has been standing for along time.

The Japan Government has announced a dynamic pricing for Tourists coming to Japan.
2025 will start a new system of pricing in Goods, Entertainment and Leisure's Japan-wide.

This means for example a park ticket on popular destinations, It will have a pricing for Tourist and a local residents price.
This new system has already started to rollout with the Likes of Nintendo Switch 2 and Okinawa Brand new theme park Junglia.

The reason behind this is that The Japanese Yen is weak and they want the local residents to boost the economy by giving them advantages. Recently there has been rampant price increase all across the board for daily necessities.

My main takeway with this, We should expect Tokyo Disney Resort and Universal Studios Japan to follow with the new system very soon.

So, it'll soon be quite a bit more expensive to visit TDR? Not ideal...

it will still depend on the market, like theyre still the cheapest Disney theme park Globally.
It will be beneficial for local residents and for the economy since the JPY is still weak.

Tax-free policy is also changing sometime in 2025/2026.

Its going to be an interesting few weeks on what will be announced during shareholders meeting. With their mid-term plan for the resort.

Darn! I wish they’d sell November now, so I could buy before prices go up for us foreigners 😂

Could you share a source for this? I monitor Japanese Gov announcements pretty closely and have not heard of this.

I know a lot of local attractions and shops are looking at dual pricing for tourists vs. Japanese, but have not heard anything about the Government making any kind of top down policy. The Switch 2 pricing is set by Nintendo, not the Government.

Not doubting you, just curious if there is something lost in translation here.

I’m in Japan right now and it is slammed with tourists. I’ve seen more tourists than I’ve seen Japanese people.
It's been like this for a while, weak yen is probably a huge proponent as to why. I would not be surprised if OLC does eventually do dual pricing. Guess this shareholders report at the end of the month will say what will happen.
