Miscellaneous Tokyo Thoughts

Why would that be a reason to not want guests dressing as Spider-Man at Tokyo Disney Resort?

I think Marvel rights also lapsed. Hence the Small World thing.

Which probably doesn’t impact guest costumes, but maybe it’s a weird Japanese company culture respectful thing…

So I dug up the English language guidelines. It seems that they have a liste of approved movies from which costumes can be based. Since they specifically mention Disney characters I’m guessing it has to do with Spider-Man being licensed to Sony. I don’t understand why that matters but that’s my best guess.

It's weird because guests dressing up as Spider-Man is not the same thing as OLC creating an attraction or show with the character

People dress up as non Disney characters for the USA Halloween events all the time.

I was at TDL and TDS last week... maybe it's me, but from all the Disney parks I found that the volume of rides (for example Philarmagic or Baymax's cool down mission) and parades at TDL is really really high. Anybody else noticed this? Or am I getting old?
I also noticed a few castmembers standing around with what seemed like sound level meters in their hands.

Some photos of how dead the parks are today.

The parks have been relatively less crowded on weekends lately, probably a result of flex pricing making weekends the most expensive days.

It's also been extremely hot the past couple weeks, so that could be part of it.

TEA 2023 attendance report is out

USJ keeps its spot as the #1 most-attended park in Asia (and #3 worldwide) for the second year in a row. TDL remains #2 while TDS slips to #5 on account of major growth at Chinese parks post-COVID restrictions, namely SDL and Chimelong Ocean Kingdom.

One niche thing I noticed: Nagashima Spa Land, previously the most-attended theme park in Japan that's not Disney or Universal, has slipped out of both the global top 25 (was #21 last year) and the Asia top 20 on account of the surge of attendance at Chinese parks. The recently opened Ghibli Park also didn't crack the Asia top 20.

Another interesting thing related to the Asian parks is that HKDL has had a surge in its recovery and looks to still be trending upwards but ocean park has completely foundered and lost its long held dominance over the HK region to Disneyland

Im going to debunk one of my posts regarding the seasonal parades, This christmas OLC will be playing DisneyChristmas stories.

As the other day the floats were spotted being prepped for its run this year. Yep no new parade its still the same thing this year.

I like Christmas Stories! I rather keep that and have TDR get Spectaculars back in TDS!

Indiana Jones at TDS is getting a 1 year refurb starting in March 2025.

This follows a trend of several other long refurbs in the past year. Sinbad is currently down for 6 months, PotC was down for 6 months last year, Hunny Hunt was down for 4 months this year. Over at USJ in Osaka, Jurassic Park is currently down for a 1 year+ major refurb.

That would be a great time to plus/modernize some effects like the DL version has done over the years.
