Multiple reports are streaming across twitter that are quoting the Anaheim PD as saying that a plastic bottle containing dry ice exploded in a trashcan in the Toontown section of the park.

Thank god no one was injured. What really es me off is that this is likely some stupid punk kid trying to be cool/funny. As weird as it sounds, they make me angrier than terrorists. At least terrorists are trying to make a political (if evil) point. These types of pranks are just people being morons and potential causing injuries by "accident."

Oh good its been reported here already, I myself was about to start a thread on it, it is good to know that it is not anything major and nobody was harmed.

Same basic principal as diet coke and mentos, but with a lot more punch. The dry ice (solid CO2) rapidly turns to gas when you add a little water and will make a sealed plastic bottle explode.

It's an explosion caused by the pressure of phase shifting the dry ice into a gas. It sort of is similar to the Diet Coke and Mentos thing because it is the pressure the that causes the the container to burst.

This could just as easily have been a CM playing a "joke", not that I think it is...but Ice cream is generally packed for delivery with dry ice. I used to get bags full of the stuff every truck delivery.
Any insulated thermos would suffice.

Not necessarily. The addition of water drastically accelerates the process causing the explosion. Dry ice in a thermos with the lid on a little loose would more than likely never explode as it would never build up pressure. You could probably even get away with just a water bottle as long as the lid was not air tight, but it would not take too long for the dry ice to evaporate without a little insulation.

Someone being an a$$ would leave it out in the open, Someone putting it in a trash can where every single object can potentially be a piece of shrapnel is a much more sinister situation.
