Minor Fantasmic Update

I think it's a newer projector that makes it brighter, but they must have a new water system that makes the image clearer. The versions I've seen in the past, the spray sometimes makes the video portions almost unwatchable - but then, that might have been the wind.

Speaking of which... why don't they upgrade to do some projection mapping onto the mountain (like with Celebrate the Magic) - that would really show Disneyland! aHa!

If they really wanted to make WDW's Fantasmic something special, they could find a way to draw the audience in more. Virtually everyone who has seen Fantasmic on both coasts agrees that DL's is the superior experience, due in part to the intimacy you lose by going to an amphitheater setup.

So... why not take advantage of the auditorium by using bigger, cooler effects that DL can't use because of proximity? At the very least, we should have the cooler dragon.

I don't know if that would work because they are often setting up things and props on the stage when the water screens are on. It would be super cool though, if they could time it with the stage crews

Yeah the thing with the water screens is that they pretty much serve a purpose of allowing things to be set up/taken down on the mountain. There really isn't a time when the water screens are on that something isn't being set up on the island except maybe the first Sorcerer Mickey sequence. The whole bubble sequence is really long and then leads into Monstro but that whole time the cast is changing from flowers/jungle creatures to Native Americans/Colonists and the stage is being set up for the Pocahontas scene. It'd be cool if some other things could be added in addition to the water screen segments like projection mapping on the mountain or even some additonal pyro here and there or some other simple effects.

I think the only time the water screens make it difficult to watch the projections is when it's windy and the mist is blowing either away from the projections or directly into them (which causes an abundance of water to block the projections)

Also it's Wikipedia, but on there they claim that in Spring 2014(now) the projectors were replaced with HD digital projectors and the animation received a digital transfer as well. But really anyone who could confirm this would be great!

Couldn't disagree more. Fantasmic in DHS is far better - even for the amphitheatre.

It certainly feels more spectacular by having to get a seat, and spend some time waiting on it starting, the light rigs, the little mountain, just being secluded away from the hustle and bustle - no cast members roaring behind you "KEEP WALKING ON THE RIGHT" to dwellers.

The elephants/pinnochio section is weird and doesn't seem to fit. The end dragon scene feels rather rushed and very anti climactic despite a cooler dragon.

The Peter Pan section is better but I strongly believe the DHS version is a stronger Good Vs Evil storyline and does a ton more to immerse you in the show. It feels rather stuck on at Disneyland as an extra rather than a spectacular. I was sorely disappointed in DL as a huge Fantasmic fan at DHS.

I think both are great experiences. There's something special about the one in Disneyland, but the DHS one was designed for an ampitheater, and I could see why the DL one seems to be preferred, but it's not really meant to evoke the coziness, IMO, although many still get that warm feeling watching it.

At least they didn't copy it exactly from DL, like they probably would do now & they tried to do something different (even if many would prefer they did just copy it, LOL). And also, Pocahontas was the newest thing at the time, I believe (and did they recycle the old canoes for this? That could be a reason for Pocahontas too, as DL has the Columbia).

I *personally* prefer Peter Pan in general, but I don't mind the Pocahontas section. It's not exactly thrilling, I guess. I'd still like them to do something different with that part though.

Found something else that's new, but once again small.

In this video:

at 0:10 and at 26:06 you can see new strobe lights on the light towers as they rise and go down.

To me it looks like its the other lights on the light towers that are usually inactive. I believe there are two light fixtures per level.

We did the preferred seating with dessert party at DL, it was front row seats and felt very intimate. I would agree the DL was crisper and we can compare when we return to DHS on June 7 this year.

I first saw Fantasmic at DL in 1994, and while I prefer the seating at MGM, the Rivers Of America itself and the fact that they used Mark Twain make this cooler. I think they have better characters at DL as well.
