Trip Report Minnie2000's trip report August 2013

We had a fantastic trip to WDW in August, and I am very late starting the trip report. :)

We stayed at the Polynesian for the first two weeks of August and had a fantastic time. There were four of us, DH, me, and our two DDs who are 16 and 12. I will sort out my photos and then write the report properly.

Thanks FlaggNL, I am hoping to try and do the next report while I am there - but I don't know if that will actually happen! :hilarious: (probably not!)

Thursday 8th August: We went to the Animal Kingdom and went straight on the safari. Then we watched Flights of Wonder, and had lunch at the Yak and Yeti counter service. The food was really good, and there was too much of it! We had a meal each, but could easily have shared two between the four of us. We went on Expedition Everest, which was the first time for the girls and me. It was good - I wasn’t too sure about the backwards part, but I would go on it again! We watched the Lion King, which is one of our favourites, and then headed back to the pool for the afternoon. Later on, we had a wonderful meal in ‘Ohana - another favourite of ours.

Friday 9th August: We got up late this morning and had breakfast at Captain Cook’s. We hired a pontoon boat and went out onto the lagoon. We did some shopping and ended up in the orange shop - a shop on the 192 that looks like an orange. I had the best orange juice there, and also bought some great orange flavoured lip balm. Spent the afternoon by the pool and had a meal in the Kona Café. Watched the Electric Water Pageant and the fireworks from the beach at the Polynesian.

Saturday 10th August: We set off early and drove to Universal Studios.

We got there early and went on Despicable Me with only a ten minute wait. It was ok, but we were a bit disappointed - we just seemed to sit in a car and get bumped around a bit while watching a film. I was glad we didn’t queue for a few hours for that!

We then went on the Simpsons’ ride, and while we were in the queue, we saw friends from home - what a coincidence! After that we went on Men in Black three times. I loved this ride, and thought that the theming in the queue area was brilliant. We went on ET and the Terminator and headed over to Islands of Adventure.

We went on Spiderman, and then on the Harry Potter ride twice, using the single rider line.

We spent the rest of the day by the pool and then had a meal at Olivia’s at Old Key West. It was a lovely meal, and the server was great. We would definitely go back there again.

Sunday 11th August: We did some shopping at the Premium Outlets. Spent some time by the pool, and then went to the Magic Kingdom.

We had reservations for Be Our Guest, so we headed over there. It was a great experience. We were called by our name to go in, and then shown to our table. We were in the main hall, near the windows and could see the snow falling outside. The food was excellent, and at the end we were given some of the grey stuff, for our anniversary. We looked around the other dining rooms, met the Beast, and left.

We watched the fireworks from the rose garden, went on the Carousel of Progess and watched the Main Street Electrical Parade.

Monday 12th August: Went to Epcot on the Monorail and had breakfast in the land. Went on the sum of all thrills, and test track. Went on soarin’ and then tried strawberry shortcake in the land. It was delicious - my new favourite! We walked around the world showcase and watched the American film. We didn’t like it - sorry everyone! It was very long and quite a few people fell asleep. We then had lunch in the American Pavilion which was lovely. The girls did the Phineas and Ferb game in Germany. We tried the school bread in Norway, but couldn’t see why they were so popular - I’ll stick to the strawberry shortcake! Went on Spaceship Earth, and then headed back to the pool at the Polynesian.

Tuesday 13th August: Took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We went on Splash, It’s a small world and the teacups. Did Splash once more with a fast pass, and had lunch at Pecos Bill’s. This was the best counter service meal we had all holiday. I had the pulled pork and sweet potato fries, and it was all delicious. We went on Peter Pan and Philharmagic. Went back to the pool for the rest of the day, and had dinner at ‘Ohana.

Wednesday 14th August: Had a fantastic breakfast at the Kona Café - I had the Samoan, which was a bit like Eggs Benedict with pulled pork - wow - it was wonderful. We finished packing, bought some snacks at the airport and left the Polynesian to drive to the airport.

All in all it was a wonderful holiday, and we will be back soon!
