Elaborate confectionary creations planned for Walt Disney World
Disney pastry chefs will create elaborate confectionary creations and larger-than-life, edible displays planned for locations across the Walt Disney World property.
* A life-size, completely edible carousel will be located in the lobby of Disney's Beach Club Resort. Featuring ponies made of sugar, giant candy cane poles, hand-crafted poinsettias and portraits of famous Disney characters on a lighted roof of gingerbread, the carousel will greet guests next to the resort's giant holiday tree. Small gingerbread houses and Christmas stollen will be sold in the merchandise stores. Chefs will give demonstrations throughout the day giving tips to guests on how to decorate their own gingerbread creations.
* Boma-Flavors of Africa at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge will display a miniature African village made out of yummy chocolate, gingerbread and sugar. The houses and buildings will be inspired by architecture styles throughout Africa.
* Disney's BoardWalk features a 15-by-20-foot display depicting a boardwalk area with a five-foot-tall Ferris wheel, carousel, water slide, building and a beach area. Everything is made of chocolate, sugar and gingerbread.
* At Epcot, The Liberty Inn at the American Adventure pavilion in the park's World Showcase will be home to Santa's Bakeshop. A life-sized Santa's Gingerbread House will be made entirely of gingerbread, cookies and icing. Christmas cookies and hot and cold beverages may be purchased from inside the gingerbread house.
* A few miles away from Epcot, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will again feature a life-size holiday gingerbread house. Guests may purchase mouth-watering Santa lollipops, gingerbread cookie people, gingerbread ornaments and cookies, stollen bread and Grand Floridian chocolate logo boxes filled with truffles, peppermint bark and small gingerbread houses.
* A gingerbread holiday village will be on display on the fourth floor of the main building of Disney's Contemporary Resort.
* The second floor of the Ceremonial House in Disney's Polynesian Resort, pastry chefs will create an exotic gingerbread village with volcanoes and edible palm trees. Christmas cookies, biscotti and other confectionary delights will be sold at the Kona Island coffee bar.
* Disney's Yacht Club Resort lobby will feature a miniature train racing around a sugary mountain and village. Small gingerbread houses, Christmas stollen and pannettone (traditional Italian bread) will be sold in the merchandise stores.
* The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has never been so delicious! Guests to the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant at Disney-MGM Studios will be treated to a four-foot version of the almost 200-foot structure. The Tower of Terror "replica" will be made entirely of gingerbread, icing and sugar.
