Hey there, hi there, ho there, Disney-philes: It's time to make plans to head for Dearborn, Mich.
Why there? Because The Henry Ford, a Dearborn museum, is partnering with Walt Disney Imagineering to present "Behind the Magic: 50 Years of Disneyland."
The exhibit will feature 250 items, including artwork, hand-crafted models and marketing materials. It's set to be at The Henry Ford from Sept. 23 through the first week in January 2006.
Among the many Mouse-related mementos on view will be:
A hitchhiking ghost from the Haunted Mansion.
A coonskin cap from Frontierland.
A backlit Cheshire Cat head.
The original rendering of Disneyland, created by artist Herb Ryman and used to get ABC-TV to invest in the proposed theme park.
The Abraham Lincoln figure created for the 1964 World's Fair in New York, billed as "the first Audio-Animatronics 'human' to appear in a Walt Disney production."
Original vehicles from Peter Pan's Flight.
A model of Mickey's Toontown House.
Mickey's house telephone.
A Model T-like vehicle used in Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.
A themed trash can from Adventureland.
Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at thehenry ford.org or by calling 1-800-835-5237.
Beginning next year, the exhibit will tour nationally. No word yet on whether it's coming anywhere near Orlando.
But you wouldn't want to wait that long anyway, would you?
