The best seats in any 3D show are towards the back, as this gives the 3D effect the maximum impact.

I've always found the center to be the best no matter where you are sitting, it's just easier to see the whole show in teh back because you aren't moving your head as much. While watching Muppets a few weeks ago, I was in the second row and about second or third seat from the left. For some reason I thought my glasses were malfunctioning so I switched with my girlfriend and to my dismay it didn't help. I think I was too far to the left. The images were 3D but only on the screen. It looked as if I was just watching a regular movie, nothing was jumping out at me. That's one of my favorite shows and it really upset me that it wasn't "3D" to me. On the other hand, I was in the middel row or so in Philharmagic and near the far left there and the 3D was perfect there. It's the same wherever you sit in there, unlike Muppets.

I don't know why, but the first few scenes seem blurry to me. But then once Donald gets whisked away, everything is sharp as ever.

Agreed! I think when the scenes have less 3-D, you still have your glasses on which may cause some issues? I had the same issue with you and took the glasses off at certain times to see the screen. I noticed how some scenes were are lot more "double" for the 3-D effect compared to others.

Disappointment

On my trip to Disney World last weekend, I was thoroughly excited about riding Philharmagic, and let me say this show was an utter disappointment.
"Oh yes, our company is doing bad, here's a brilliant idea, lets take all of our (few) successful full-length animated features from the past decade, take the most popular scene from each, render them in 3D, and add Donald, because statistically he is the most popular of our characters. Storyline? Of course we don't need one!"
I just view this show as a poor excuse to make money with little or no point. It's one of the least original films they have ever made, and don't get even me started on the waiting area.

I am surprised that anyone could be as disappointed in Philharmagic as you were. As a fan of the Lion King show that was replaced by Philharmagic I went in there expecting little but I loved every minute of it and wished there were even more movies in it. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it :(

In this situation Disney could have maybe done original ideas, but when you can take the best scenes from some of their best films that people will instantly be excited with in the shows 10 minute span they aren't going to pass this up.

With how people are today and being dissapointed very easily because of high expectations, Disney choose to go with the safe bet where from the start people would be into it.

I don't think I explained everythign above the best, lol, but hopefully you get my point that they went into this with the two options of either a)what the final product is now and have a gaurenteed safe bet or b)create totally new stories for each of the characters that could totally bomb.

While I happen to enjoy philharmagic,o ddly enough I have similar types of feelings about Fantasmic. Talk about just throwing a bunch of stuff together with a barely cohesive story line.

Yeah, the ride was very well made and I could see how other people would like it, but I just feel it lacked major inspiration and they were being too "safe" when making this attraction. I just wish they would have taken risks and attempted to do something different, rather than a surefire crowdpleaser.

I went to all of the current 3-d shows that are currently open in WDW and Philharmagic was the only one we did twice. Muppets is showing it's age and the 3-d effects aren't as in your face as other shows. HISTA is still decent although there is starting to be a generation of kids who don't know anything about those movies. The blow-up in your face effects though can scare some kids. ITTBAB is my second favorite. Since it is newer than the HISTA and Muppets, the effects seem to be more real and the whole thing with it being computer animated (on-screen) seems to keep you from figuring out what is just an effect as you would in a live action film.
Philharmagic while it was blurry during the orchestra scenes, the rest of the movie seemed sharp. Although the 1st time we saw it we were in the middle of the 5th rown and the 2nd time the left side of the second row, the first time was definitely much clearer. I actually found myself reaching for Donald when he was calling for help before getting sucked in the balck hole. I don't know why but it was just something that my body kind of did. Weird! The scents were awesome and the carpet flying scene was awesome in making you feel like you were tagging just behind Donald as he went crashing through the streets on the carpet.

Side note: Lumiere's voice is Gerry Orbach of Law and Order fame (you may also know him as the father in Dirty Dancing). My wife doesn't believe it but if you listen, particularly when he says "...now we present to you, your dinner..."

Really, if you look at all of the rides in Fantasyland (with the exception of IASW) they are "Let's take the best scene/scenes in our best films and turn them into attractions." I really don't have a problem with it. It's nice to see favorite films come to life (in the case of Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, etc.) or from a different point of view (Phillharmagic).

I saw Phillharmagic for the first time on my last trip, then promptly went on it again. I was absolutely amazed at some of the 3-D effects, especially the Ariel reaching out effect, and the in-theater effects were some of the best on the property. I think my favorite part of all, though, was the baby broom. Previously, Muppetvision was my favorite 3-D movie-and I still absolutely love it-but I think Phillharmagic is ever so slightly better.

Well, that's my $0.02 anyway.

I loved this show so much, I have a Sorcerer's hat. It's my favorite 3D attraction of all time, I think it hits all of the right notes- it has laugh-out loud moments when it needs to, it consistently throws so many dazzling 3D projectiles that it tops many 3D horror movies that were released in the 80s, it's family friendly without any crude humor or foul insults, it's always interesting, it's not too long, it's got a creative storyline, the "4D" surprises were subtle and there weren't too many to bother me, the animation stays true to the way the characters moved in the movies and cartoons the show bases off of while still looking pretty slick in the first place, and the lines aren't too long because the theater seats many people. All the kids in the audience had a great time, and so did the adults. Did I enjoy it? Hell, yes.

You do realize that both are heavily inspired by Fantasia, which also doesn't have a cohesive story line?

I wish they updated the screens since they look more blurry and the 3D can be a hit or miss unlike it was back in 2003/2004 when it was brand new.

You just replied to comment from 12 years ago, by a poster named TimeTrip. There's a time travel joke in here somewhere ;)

I like the minimalistic plot of this attraction. It makes it more repeatable than other film attractions such as Muppets or HISTA, which is appropriate for a theme park attraction imo.
