Getting excited. This will be my first run disney race, but not my first 5k. But it is my first 5k when I am running part of it. (Doing the Galloway method) I just finished my galloway training this week. I have two 5k's set up for next weekend to test out my training. Then I think I am going to start training for a 1/2! I never thought I would say that, but here I am. :)

I'm intending to use something like the Galloway method too. I'm a walker but thought I should start throwing in some running too just to increase my endurance and stamina. I'll be doing a run/walk mix for Color Me Rad when it comes through my town in a few weeks, so we'll see how it goes.

Great job ladies! My first race ever was a Disney 5K. I didn't run the whole thing because I stopped at every character stop for pictures, but to be honest I don't think I would have been able to run the entire course anyway at that time. Run Disney has got me hooked now. Now I can run an entire 5K and even a 10K without stopping and I even am signed up for my first Run Disney Half Marathon!!! I know it just takes time, but you will get there!

Getting closer to my first RunDisney race. I have been working on getting faster for my Jingle Jungle 5k, as well as, starting my 1/2 marathon training.

Did the NFL run series her in NOLA and finished with a 47:07. I was thrilled.

Then this past friday,I did a very low key 5k through my gym and shocked myself coming in at 46:11!! I can only get faster from here right! :)

LOL! Not terrible. I walked more than I ran, but I finished in 41 minutes. Good enough for the required runDisney pace, so I'm good with it.
CONGRATS! :) You'll have a blast at the 5K.
Thanks for posting. It's getting real now. My first ever race and about 5 weeks ago I couldn't even run a few feet down the road. Still trying to decide on an outfit. Not going to run without one! See you there
That's awesome that you have come so far in such a short amount of time. You'll do great! Are you thinking of wearing a costume?

I probably should post this here, too...the race weekend program: http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/wine-dine/Wine&Dine13_Program.pdf

definitely wearing a costume - if I am going to run (which I've never done before) and around Disney I am going to make the most of the experience. It's something I never even thought I could do when I signed up and the opportunity to dress up and have pictures with characters is too good an opportunity to miss! One quick question I saw you posted bib numbers was that for this race or half marathon? Just checking I haven't missed something. Thanks

Both!

When I put my name in both bibs showed up (for the 5K and the half). Of course you want to keep in mind that since this isn't linked from runDisney's site yet that there's always the possibility that these aren't *final* yet.

I'll be curious to see if they corral this race like they did the 5K in January...my guess is that they will. I'm #1085 for the 5K and my husband is #1084. :)

Your costume - make sure it's comfortable. You don't want fabric that's too heavy or could cause you to chafe. If you really want to be prepared I'd suggest a short test run in it before race day.

Thanks for the tip re costume - I'm not sure what I will look like in winter in the UK running in maybe a princess outfit or something equally Disney! I might get carted off to a funny farm and not make the race. Lol. Can see a late night run under the cover of darkness coming......

Haha! I'm pretty about race day stuff - nothing new on race day for me. I'm even bringing my breakfast from home. :p But when I ran in Disney in January it was HOT and HUMID, and I couldn't fathom how some people were making it through in the costumes they were wearing. Some I understood because they looked like lighter fabrics, but others, to me looked heavy and uncomfortable. More power to those that can run in costumes like that! I sure can't. I totally get wanting to wear the costume but I know myself - I don't even like wearing hats or visors when I run because it makes me hot. I can't imagine wearing a costume...but that's just me. And I read that the 5K this past weekend was hot and humid, so I'm preparing for more of the same in November. Just something to think about. :)

A friend of mine practiced running in her tutu for weeks before the Princess half this year. She said it was kind of fun running around town in a tutu, even though it was bitter cold in Calgary, AB. She also said she was glad she practiced because it really was quite different than her normal running clothes.

I'm just going to wear my usual compression capri pants and a tank top, but maybe throw on a fun running skirt and one of the Minnie ears headbands.

@Ariel484 - can you help me? If I was to go to the expo Friday morning driving from POR and aim to get to the door for 10am how long approx would it take to get race bibs if that's all I did? I have BOG lunch reservations and am trying to work out whether to go Friday AM or PM sometime. Your experience would be appreciated. I am not worried about shopping!

Hmm...I'm not sure! (Really helpful, right?)

You are definitely smart to get to the expo close to when it opens. Maybe try to get there a little before 10. My biggest piece of advice is to have your waivers printed out and signed beforehand - they have printers set up at the expo but it's one more line for you to wait in! They will have different sections set up for the 5K and half and they have the booths separated by number (i.e. one line for bibs 1-500, one line for 501-1000, etc.). Lately they have been doing bib pick-up in one building and t-shirt pick-up in another (the same building with all of the merch, vendors, etc.), so unfortunately there's no way for you to get in and out with just one stop.

What time is your FP for Be Our Guest? (I totally get not wanting to miss that one, I had lunch there in September and it was delicious! We have a FP for 11/11. :D)
