Mickey's Backyard BBQ- Wilderness Lodge

Hello everyone!! This is my first post here! We just made our reservations at the Wilderness Lodge starting June 4, 2005. I am already planning and excited! We are taking all three boys. The lady who I made the reservations with... talked about Mickey's Backyard BBQ. I know to make the reservations 120 days in advance.... but, where is it held? At the Wilderness Lodge? Does anyone know? Has anyone been? Any reviews on the Wilderness Lodge?

Thanks!
Kim

BBQ is at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. You would need to take the boat from WL. You will absolutely love WL. You are so relaxed the moment you walk into the lobby. There is so much to do at the hotel you would be comfortable hanging out there each day. The water parade comes by each evening and is wonderful from the beach of WL with no crowds. Have a great time. We have stayed there twice now. I only wish it was connected to the monorails. The buses to the parks were a little slow since they had to go to FW campground first.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ

Can't say enough about the WL! Our next trip back is this July, I can't even remember what number it is. We feel so relaxed & comfy there. There are quite a few threads about the WL from the past. A quick search will bring them up. There are quite a few tips/hints listed. Others may have a problem with the bus transportation, but we have never found it to be a problem. We're on vacation so we don't rush.

We recently attended Mickey's BBQ and were sorely disappointed. The food quality was less than adequate, but the worst part of the evening was the character appearences. The kids were all having a great time dancing with Mickey & the Gang. Next thing you know, it turns into one big autograph session, parents & kids pushing to get signatures. We easily would have tolerated the mediocre food, but the rest was just awful, by far our biggest letdown of an otherwise wonderful trip. If you want to check out Fort Wilderness Campgrounds, consider doing the campfire/movie night. We did explore the WL & it is very cool.

I think you will thoroughly enjoy WL. You really feel like you are in your own world. Restaurants are good, Artist Point is very nice for an adult dinner getaway (if possible).

I suggest you go to the snack bar (Roaring Fork I believe) as soon as you get there and buy a refillable cup. Use it for free coffee and soda for the remainder of your stay (probably the only bargain on the property)

As for the BBQ, I don't think it was that great. As an alternative, I would strongly suggest the Hoop de do Review. This is also located at Fort Wilderness, but is an interactive, all you can eat, family style meal and dinner show.

Look up more info on the Disney site or at allearsnet.com for more detail. The allearsnet site is also great for researching various events and particularly dining menu's.

Enjoy!

My impressions, after attending the BBQ last month:

Food was decent. The ribs, I thought, were awesome. The cake for dessert was unreal! Being a frosting freak :slurp: I ate it up. You cannot get soda to drink - it's only lemonade, water, iced tea, and beer/wine. The entertainment was loud and made dinner feel very rushed. The character appearances and dancing made it a madhouse, very hard to enjoy anything at that point. Restrooms are rather far away, in the old River Country main building. Plus you get to walk thru the smoking area to get there (major annoyance for my family, may not be that way for everyone).

I'll second the Hoop Dee Do Review. Its a little expensive , but well worth the money. A great time for all. The food? :slurp:
