We attended the Backyard B-B-Q at the end of April, and it was a blast. As far as food goes, its 2 hours of chicken-n-ribs, plus hot dogs/hamburgers/mac&cheese for the kids. Lots of sides, too. Beans, salads, cornbread. Beer & wine for the adults, lots of drinks for kids. Ice cream treats for dessert.
The band started playing about 45 min into the night, with country western music. Great female lead singer. A fellow came out onto the dance floor and did rope tricks (our kids loved it), then another gent came out and taught line dancing. I would go back in a heartbeat, it was the best.
If you go, at few tips.
Check into transportation for the end of the evening. We planned to take a boat between the Contemporary and Ft. Wilderness so we had no problems, while others planning on using Disney bus found they couldn't get directly back to their hotels.
Also, since it's a picnic, its something like festival seating. If you get there a bit early you can choose your table along the dance floor. The whole place is under cover so you won't get rained out.
All in all, it was probably the best 'dinner show/experience' we've ever had. I can't wait for the next trip.
