Hahah I feel the same way. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his vlogs got much better when Sara left.
Oh. I hadn't thought about it, but you are right, that girl doesn't do videos with him any more. Hmm...

I dunno, I guess I like quirky women....I thought she always over the top and found her off putting. I enjoy the banter between Ian and David.
I think what you mentioned has also contributed to the quality.
While the news of Runaway Railway coming to Disneyland's Toontown is no surprise, what is surprising is they announced this on the Friday before Easter like they were almost sheepish about it. Weird.
So this thought has crossed my mind, didn't have any other place to put it. But since the idea spawned from MMRR I thought I would put it here.
We all know that DLR is like a big puzzle when it comes to projects. One piece has to fall into place in order for the next piece to line up.
One rumor that floated around was that MMRR might go into the Backlot, which this announcement squashes. So what to do with Backlot then.
Well we've all assumed and rumors sort of confirmed that Frozen was going into either the FL Theater or into the Motorboat Lagoon area. And that at one time Marvel Land Phase 2 was going into the Backlot. Which a lot questioned what would they do about Hyperion with the Frozen stage show. Well what if Frozen is actually going into the Backlot instead?
I mean it sort of makes sense given that Elsa and Anna are already over there. Olaf's snowfest or whatever they call it was in Stage 17 at one time. So with that and the show in the Hyperion, you could have an Arendelle land. And then everything after Hyperion is Marvel Land.
Which leaves the other areas in DL (FL Theater and Motorboat) for BatB or some other property.
Thoughts?
I agree that the interesting stuff here isn't the content of the announcement, but rather the format of the announcement itself. In addition to the bury-it-in-the-holiday-weekend timing, it puts a rather large spotlight on Josh D'Amaro not just as the DLR president, but on a more personal level. While the news of Runaway Railway coming to Disneyland's Toontown is no surprise, what is surprising is they announced this on the Friday before Easter like they were almost sheepish about it. Its just a thought. But I do believe Backlot is going to get something soon, 3-5 years soon.I don’t see this happening. It’s just such a slam dunk for Fantasyland. The attractions you mentioned there are very temporary in nature. It would probably make sense from a capacity standpoint but I think that the backlot remains the weird flex space that it is for a few more years and then becomes either part of Marvel Land or maybe a brand new land (not Arendelle) when the eastern gateway expansion gets wrapped up. How much land does Marvel land need though? Isn’t Bugs Land and the area behind the MB enough?
Side note: not my preference if there is any “good” place to put some of the Fox properties it would be the backlot at DCA as part of Hollywoodland.
Other side note: I wonder if the Hyperions days are numbered? I believe the shows mostly fill up but only 3 times a day. Not the best use of space.

On your side notes, I honestly don't see many of Fox's properties going into DLR at all really.
And I do agree Hyperion is a waste of space right now, same with FL Theater. But if both go that means no actual live shows will be available at DLR then. So one or the other has to stay and I would say Hyperion is a better theater.
Ya it probably should stay. Just for the variety it provides. Selfishly, I’d rather see something else there.
And yeah I’d prefer no Fox properties at DLR. when it comes to Hollywoodland backlot, it’s hard to imagine what they do there, if not Marvel Land.
That X is on the 5I took the helpful map @truecoat created and added an X where you'll be able to get a good view of this construction.
The X is the sidewalk on Harbor Blvd. that is part of the freeway overpass. From that elevated sidewalk you get a clear view down into "backstage" Disneyland from there. And I really think this is part of the reason why this non-surprising announcement couldn't wait until D23 Expo, because the demolition and construction was going to be too obvious well before August.

I fully expect bloggers to begin photographing the area from that public vantage point. Thank me later.

I only view a limited number of Parks Blog posts, but I can't think of another one that features an Instagram post, especially so prominently. And it's not a post from one of Disney's corporate marketing accounts, but instead from the "personal" (but obviously cleared by corporate) account of DLR's local head who was allowed to release the information hours before the official announcement.
For people who follow these sorts of things, it's obvious that Josh D'Amaro has been a rising star in Disney's ranks for a few years, but he's still a very long way from being high profile enough to be any sort of household name. Looking at his Instagram feed, the oldest post is only from November 2018, making me think that this is part of a very deliberate strategy of some sort. The posts are all highly curated to present a rather specific public image, but it's still a mystery what that image is being so carefully developed for. He doesn't have the level of experience needed to take over Iger's job in a few years, but he's being presented in too forward of a manner to continue to be shuffled around as an upper-middle manager.
The announcement is just acknowledging one of Disney's worst-kept secrets. But the way that it was announced is what's really peculiar and newsworthy.

If Toontown really is getting significantly re-structured, I'm curious the degree to which it will be motivated by the ability to keep the land open during fireworks.

Perhaps he's trying to send a message to the vloggers....
Firework simulation with drones and sound system? If Toontown really is getting significantly re-structured, I'm curious the degree to which it will be motivated by the ability to keep the land open during fireworks.
Oh no I hadn't considered this!I wonder if they get rid of that structure in front of the Gag Factory. The little "island" with the interactive elements, the dynamite, jail cell, barbell stuck to the ground etc.
