Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

Even if you’re not the biggest fan of the cartoon style, I find it thematically worthy for the ride. If the style was like the Mickey we see in person or on all the artwork, it might not feel like we are stepping into a cartoon-specific movie.

We aren’t really going on an adventure with Mickey, but stepping into a film.

I don’t care for the grotesque Mickey, as found in the shorts, however I am a fan of the cartoon style as a clear distinction between real Mickey and film Mickey.

They really should have used this Mickey. It seems to reflect the corporation better.

latest

This version of Mickey should have been used for a Funhouse style darkride in the Pier area of DCA. So many ideas that would fit nicely for a funhouse and yet they went with Toys in a bedroom and spinning memory balls

I agree. I'm very impressed with this ride and can't wait for it to open at Disneyland. The 2 1/2d effect is pretty cool. The art, for the most part, is wacky and crazy. I hope they don't have the trackless vehicle problems they had with Rise before Dawn.

I have a philosophical disagreement with you but I can't quite pin it down. The best I can do is compare The Hobbit, a children's fairy tale, to Game of Thrones, a show meant for "adults." Game of Thrones is considered more mature in the eyes of most people due to its nudity, profanity, and violence, and yet the presence of those very things make it immature. The Hobbit, on the other hand, promotes that which is good, not cynicism and sin, and thus, despite being written for children, will always be more mature than Game of Thrones.

Get your point But that is an extreme comparison , I would compare the previous generation of Mickey and Minnie to Mickey Mouse clubhouse on Disney channel rather than to the hobbit.

I think what has been added to the new generation of Mickey and Minnie is witty sarcasm/satire that was previously lacking , just IMO

Agree, but... “Real” Mickey??? 😃 (Kidding. I know what you meant.😊)

Another site posted the full “Vacation Fun” clip show cartoon. It has some good laughs, but also demonstrates everything awful about the new style (Mickey is an idiotic, hyperactive shrieking jerk in these cartoons). And, holy cow, what an awful, sell-out, cynical ending.

Really glad the ride is better than this.
Did you watch any of the old Mickey Mouse shorts from the late 20's and early 30's?

Seriously, have you ever seen the classic Mickey short films at all? They were charming and funny (and satirical) and occasionally risqué.

Not every cartoon in the world has to be sarcastic, gross, cynical and crass. What they’ve done here is simply make Mickey just the same as nearly every other cartoon out there. There’s nothing new or original going on, accept that it’s standing on the shoulders of past (more talented) filmmakers and reaping the rewards of familiarity while trashing good taste and characterization in favor of cheap, easy gross-out gags.

I sound more angry than I really am. It’s just toonz. And I can admit the classic Mickey cartoons have an annoying obsession with butt jokes. Really, my main beef with the new stuff is the abandonment of Mickey’s personality. He’s Roger Rabbit now.

Regardless, the ride still looks great.

Decided to watch the full ride on youtube since i will not get to see it in person until it opens in Anaheim. I just can not see myself spending time in WDW although when EPIC opens i might just decide to go for a few days.

This is what i captured by the video

The attraction looks like it would be pretty fun and being surrounded by the chaos will definitely be better in person than on video.

I have a mixed reaction on how these new attractions are being built with huge show buildings and ride vehicles. The grand scale of the buildings work in creating a sense of awe but the large floor spaces take away from the intimacy the older dark rides gave to riders. It seems like with an attraction like this and Rise of the resistance they could have raised the bar of excited a bit more by designing one of the ride vehicle mechanism to be free roaming prop pieces.

Other than that this attractions seems like it will be a hit and can not wait for it to open in toontown where it seems like it will fit nicely.

Now if only they would consider giving Roger Rabbit an update like they have been doing to the other darkrides. These new projector ideas would really work great in that wonderful darkride if integrated to give the toon facades and walls some life.
The only problem is that this attraction is actually hard to film since there is so much going on (not in a bad way).

I own them. I’ve watched them all. Mickey starts out as an abusive creep in Plane Crazy and begins to develope into a likeable everyman as the studio got a handle on who he was.

He never licked a dwarf.

Yes agree, that why i kind of mentioned that

"The attraction looks like it would be pretty fun and being surrounded by the chaos will definitely be better in person than on video." and it was more of an observation in regards to the large show rooms with wide open floor space.

I had a similar feeling in RISE when it came to the huge open spaces in some areas. The attraction was amazing and the large rooms work great for that kind of ride and theme but some of those large corridors and rooms seemed like they needed something more. AT times i asked myself why are we speeding thru the hallways when i see nothing that i threatening us? Why is the ship so empty, are the storm troopers we saw at the beginning still standing there in the hangar while the prisoners escape? aside from the blasters almost felt like i needed to see a bit more of that interaction between the riders and the sets.

I am sure i will have a blast riding it once i get a chance and the ride itself does look like it will be quite popular
