Disney is a business. It has to fight for guests and to keep it's guests at any cost, even if this means creating similar attractions, parks and shopping that are competing with it. In 1971 Disney didn't have to compete with anyone for guests. Now look at all of the companies that have capitolized on Disney since then.
Wouldn't you do the same if your park was loosing guests to other parks? Creativity on new ideas are great. But competition in the area has changed the company to be competitive. It's business.
