MGM's Halloween Horrors?

Hey everybody, I was just curious.

My fiance' (Legacy) and I worked Halloween Horror Night's last year and had a very interesting discussion with one of the stage managers. Word around Universal is that Disney will be doing a Halloween Horror Night's type event in MGM in order to win some of the crowds that Universal has in October.

I was curious if anybody who works at Disney had news or rumors on this?

given MGM's target audience, I wouldn't doubt it at all.

Niether would I....but if they do something like horror nights...it should be interesting to see what the name will be and how different/same their version is as compared to Universal's....

They could play with the whole Twilight Zone thing....and some of the attractions at the Studios have potentially terrifying characters in their storyline....some storm troopers and bounty hunters from Star Wars....some cursed mummies or cannibals from Indi...then there are the characters from Playhouse Disney....:lookaroun

And maybe even Eisner can play his part....

Then again maybe the Disney Villains (ala Fantasmic gone wrong) take over the park....:animwink:

I really hope they do it. I agree that Disney should kinda "grow up" and try to something that is really terrifying. I just hope that the villians are NOT forefront characters. They need to create new personas to terrorize so people don't go in with pre-concieved notions.

The problem is when people hear or see the name "Disney" they already get pre-concieved notions...

Point very well noted. Those pre-concieved ideas do happen as soon as 'Disney' is tacked on... but I think people will flock to MGM if Disney does decide to risk it. I would love to see MGM turn into a nightmarish version of itself. But if it does I want to see something truly terrifying. I don't want to see Captain Hook or Cruella De Vil running at me. I don't want to see the Sorceror's Hat turned into a witch's hat. I want to see Chernabog towering over the entire park. I want the Twilight Zone to extend down Sunset Blvd. I want the cityscape's turn into a scene from Dawn of the Dead. The park can turn into an absolutely terrifying experience, mostly BECAUSE of the Disney name. Just imagine how unsettling it would be to walk into a park and hanging above the main stretch are the Fab 5... hanging by nooses.

That is the type of tone I want to see Disney have if this is done. Disney should take it's name and brutalize it if they want the idea to work.

That would be great (although one would have to think what kind of effect that will have on the kids and families who will visit the park before the horror), but the chances of something like that happening are real slim....unless they surprise us....Disney has never been known for what you have proposed....but it sounds interesting the more I think about it....lets see what happens...

Am I sensing homophobia/discrimination or would you be sad if this happened? Because if it is homophobia I really don't appreciate it..

The Studios is already a nightmare to walk into, isn't that scary enough?

Anyways, I doubt Disney is going to do such a thing. They've got the Not-So-Scary Halloween Party already and I doubt that they'll do anymore. There's no way that they can overtake HHN at all. If they wanted to take down HHN, then they'd have to do some stuff which won't be Disney-like at all. A scary thing though, featuring all the villains and stuff, would be neat and new for a change. They've got a bunch of places for stuff like that in the park. Maybe even a darker Fantasmic. Or, they could make the park evil for the night, and then finish it off with Fantasmic, so Mickey would have 'destroyed' the villains and peace would return to the MGM Studios. That would be cool.

Also, just as long as Eisner is a featured villain, i'm all for a Halloween event at the Studios.

You are thinking the wrong Fab 5. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy are also known as the Fab 5. They were the ones I were referring to.

If I were homophobic I wouldn't be so excited about going back to work in the theme park industry.

Alex, buddy, the "Fab 5" are the 5 main Disney Characters.

And that would be VERY distubing to see that, but I would LOVE it. It will never happen though (um, atleast I think it wont). But MGM is a great park to do this in. They have all those empty soundstages for mazes and other experiences. All of Sunset under a Twilight Zone spell sounds awesome aswell. The whole Playhouse Disney/Little Mermaid area can be a less scary area, with the Disney villians doing something, or have that be a show. Sunset could be Twilight Zone, and there is still alot more that can be done. Maybe even a small firework/light show by the hat, like they did by the castle during the Haunted Mansion event. (btw, I saw the trailer for Dawn Of The Dead, and it looks awesome...is it a remake?)

Why wouldn't this be something that Disney could do? I know Disney doesn't like to single out families but I think you could make it an event where you have to be at least 15 years old. Then they wouldn't need to worry about scary little kids and ruining the Magic.

:lookaroun Woops... I hate it when I jump to conclusions like that. Errrrr. I didn't know the nickname for all of the 5 disney characters were the Fab 5. lol. I immediately thought Queer Eye and I... I'm sorry about that. :(

It's all good. It took me a second to figure out what you were referring to but I understand where the communication breakdown would come from. I would be very upset if the human Fab 5 were hanging across Hollywood Blvd.; that would be too disturbing.

Speaking of Halloween, what ever happened to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at MK? I went in 2002, i think it was Passholder only? But I didn't hear anything about it for 2003, or maybe I missed it.

Edit: oops, looks it did run last year, and the Passholder halloween party seems to have been unrelated.

Disney is really missing the boat at Halloween time, NSS is fine for the Magic Kingdom but MGM would be a great place for a scary party fest.

Disney could do this, and do it very well. The only problem is the fact that smaller kids may be brought to the event by their parents thinking it wont be scary. If Disney does do this, they need to make it clear that the MGM event is a more "adult oriented" experience, and still have the Halloween Party at MK for the familes and little ones.

UCF Disneyfan...I dont think they should limit it by age. I get much more scared over things then my 13 year old brother does

Well, even if they decided not to do a horror theme but just a Halloween block party directed at families, I think that might be a good alternative to Universal's. They have to think counter programing. No need to play the whole monkey see, monkey do game.

:::gasp::: Yes it is a remake!!!!!

I will echo some of the other comments here about the Disney Halloween nights...there's some good ideas here, but I don't see it ever happening. The idea of having their characters hanging dead from the entrance to the park wouldn't go over too well with many people.

Besides, I can't see Walt ever wanting chainsaw weilding maniacs roaming around in his parks!
